I'll lead off with ..........OPEN BACK FOLDERS !!!!!

Any folder with an open back just exists to catch dimes, lint, and dirt.

I wouldn't wish one of those in YOUR pocket!

:barf:

Any Case knife made since 1970.

Most Stabilized wood handles.

AUS 6 & 420 Steel.

Delrin

Just to name a few...

Any knife that doesnt fit comfortably to my hand. I love to try them out and see how they feel. But there are some out there that people go "eewww and ahhhh" about and I just find too big and too heavy. Won't buy them.

or, more accurately, the lack thereof.

Exactly.

That's what's keeping me from a new knife right now.
:(

Chisel grinds are also a no-no for me. Benchmande's CQC-7 forever ruined chisel ground blades for me.

1. When I am bereft of play money

2. Knives exhibiting other than superior fit and finish

3. Liner lock folders - with only 2 exceptions, those from Kit Carson and Phil Boguszewsi.

Price tag, Kraton handle/anything spongy and rubbery, serrated edge (partly/whole), too heavy/too light, hard plastic slabs, over-designed blade-shape, all I can think of right now.

I just thought of another one. Flat, no hilt, punched out knives!

If they can't at least slip a HILT on before puttin on the handle, then it better not be over 12 bucks.

An INTEGRAL hilt is fine if it is all around the blade. Whoever thunk that blades don't also SLIP along the side wuz nuts!

But these new ground-down lawn mower blades masquerading as "tactical" wonders are bunkum. Gimme a file. Oh yeh, some string to wrap around it an call it a handle, too.

Like most the price tag. If I had extra money I wouldn't buy anything that I couldn't carry on me all the time comfortably or anything with a full serated blade. Folders are my prefrence.

Stainless steel. Any kind. I finally concluded I just don't like it. I have tried every steel out there and like 1095 the best, but other simple carbon steels too. Case CV is good and so is whatever Marbles used to use. Carbon steel has the perfect balance of sharpening ease and egde taking and retention for my uses for a knife. The stainless ones that take and hold a good egde are too tough to sharpen easily. Plus a good patina is the best finish a knife can have in my book. Money or lack thereof is the other factor.

As it has been mentioned 4 or 5 times already, money, #1 reason, closely followed by quality.

1.. any of those over ornamented fantasy blades..
2.. the cost
3.. the fact I have too many blades already

actually only #1 seems to actually work

aside from lack of financial security, the following.
made in *china, pakistan, etc*
the name "hibben" anywhere near it
silly pink-and-green gimmicky wooden handles
i suppose the best way to phrase the last one is "designed and targeted to joe sixpack" if you know what i mean. i like knives that reflect my good taste (and some resale value is nice too).
peace.

If I think that I probably won't use a knife in the foreseeable future, I won't buy it (for tacticals, carrying it around outside counts as "using" :)) . That eliminates most customs and definitely the medium to high-end stuff. Other than that, I won't buy ugly knives or knives made from thick stock.

Lack of $$$ usually keeps me from buying anything. :)
