What will keep you FROM buying a knife?

Quality issues aside, I'd have to say fully serrated, or even partially serrated blades don't do much for me. Chisel grinds are a no-no. Multi-colored anodizing, like all the "rainbow" knives out there. :barf: Anything with a clip that's NOT removable. These are a few of my least favorite things.

Badly placed or designed pocket clips. Tip-up or tip-down doesn't matter (so long as it's not dangerous), but I hate when it stick out of the pocket too far, tears clothing, is too weak or too strong. For example, the Woodard Fer De Lance. Excellent (more than excellent) knife, but on the tip-up version the butt sticks out like an inch (and can get scratched). On the tip-down version, the knife stick out even more!

Functionality - If I don't see myself being able to carry it more then likely won't buy it.

I'm with Crucible.

The wife.

420 or AUS6 steel, as has been mentioned before.

Poor ergonimics, as has been mentioned before.

Overhype in advertising- especially of a military nature.

A few years ago I bought several different knives that sounded cool. I've found ones that I like.
Right now I don't have lots of "play money", and there are other things that I'd rather spend the money on. I have my own shopping list for the future, starting with the stainless steel Cricket that was recently on passaround!
The knife I bought most recently was a Mora Clipper for my outdoor bag. I see no reason to buy a new knife unless I like it a lot or need it for practical reasons.

Serrations :barf: :barf: :barf:
Kraton :barf: :barf:
Thick blades/edges :barf:
Other things too numerous to list.

I don't like a lot of things, like serrations, but what really gets me is low grinds! I hate seeing an otherwise well designed knife, with a grind that starts halfway or less up the blade! Yuck.

bead blast finishes

tumble-polished blades with rounded off points

lockacks/slipjoints where the back of the blade and the spring don't match nice and neat

kraton

combo edges

chisel grinds

cord-wraps

Poor fit for me.

Doesn't fit a purpose for me.

Fade.

Over-priced. I never mine paying for quality, just don't like getting doinked.

Anything mall-ninja'ed!

1. Mall ninja'd.

2. Non-tactical - and by tactical here I mean tough, but with a thin cutting edge. Think AFCK or Nimravus.

3. Poor sheath or leather sheath with a fixed blade.

4. Lockback, framelock, or liner lock saftey mechanism.

5. Assisted opening.

6. Switchblade without saftey.

7. Bad heat treat.

8. Blade too heavy or too thick or too broad - I like a thin knife, on the slender side. The nimravus is about as broad as I like 'em.

9. Non-pointy tip, with a few exceptions like the Griptilian.

10. Tanto points - just not my thing.

11.Too long to carry.

12. Over $150 to buy.

I guess I'm picky.

I will not buy a knife with

1) A blade made of 420 stainless

2) A rubber handle

3) Gerber stamped on the blade

4) An injection molded plastic handles with a price tag of more than $20

5) A beadblasted blade

6) A serrated edge

7) Frost stamped on the blade

8) A gun company name on it

9) A motorcycle company name on it.

10) Made by exploited labor.

11) Ivory handles

12) handles made from "penis bone" (it's just too weird)

13) Made by companies endorsing Kerry Edwards

That reminds me of something. About 6 years ago I was friends with an ex Navy Seal. He thought the Hibben knives by UC were the peak of the knife making arts
 . Moral of the story? Just because someone was in the Special Forces, dosen't mean they know squat about knives.

Back on topic.
1. No money
2. Just don't like it.
3. More of weapon than a tool. I use knives as tools, not weapons.
4. The actions of the owner of the company. There are a couple of people out there that I will NEVER buy a knife from; wouldn't even want one if it was given to me. They've pissed me off and offended me that much.
5. Serations. I've tried them, but just don't like them. For my uses, a non-serated edge is best. Of course, if I otherwise REALLY like the knife and the serations aren't too agressive, I'll just sharpen them off :D .

Leo

-serrated edges
-"tanto" style
-pocket clips
-no hole for lanyard/ring
-one hand openers where the blade seems loose
-non-locking folders
-double edged blades
-non-flat blade (chisle ground is the term?)
-looks like its made for star trek
-too tactical

#1 POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE...dont care what the knife is or the hype around it, but if the company gives me the run around or doesnt meet a good standard of service to their customers I will get really pissed and never recommend that company regardless of their reputation for quality (even if they have a quality unmatched, poor service dont fly with me).

#2 Serrations, I mean they're useless and just dont 'cut it' when it comes to blade maintenance.

#3 Poor edge retention steels and steels which wear real easily (as in scratches easily, dulls quick, all round pain in the ass knife).

#4 Hype, I hate a few smiths who hype their product simply because of a so called secret heat treat method. I'd say more but it'd be a dead give away, plus the smiths roam these woods.

#5 Crappy blade and handle design, I know what works after a few years of industry experience. Sorry but your crap designs dont fly with me...

just a few things that bug me...
