What woudl you change on a SAK Farmer

tholiver,

Go over to the SOSAK website and "pick the brains" of the folks there who do mods on SAKs. I believe you will find them all quite helpful, and may save you some time with your mods.

Ron

1tracker,

go to www.sosakonline.com, and check with felinevet's shop there. Scibeer does the mods, and felinevet lists them at his shop. Scibeer is the one who added scissors to my Farmer.

scibeer is a cool dude.... he does some great work... he lives a few minutes away from me... we hang out every now and again...

he rehandled a tinker in osage and made a matching pen for it too.... it came out awesome... it was a gift for my father in law... he loved it...:D

Mike, I have that Farmer with scissors waiting on me at home! I am really looking forward to actually getting to use it. Thank Scibeer again for me when you next see him!

I agree with those who don't like the keyring,it intrudes on cutting making it awkward and it snags on stuff in a pack.Haven't ground it off yet as I fear rough edges....Otherwise fantastic knife,so is the Pioneer!

I had these two made up by Scibeer.

I carried the red one with the scissors at lot at first, but since I added a Leatherman Squirt S4 to my keyring it stays home a lot. The blue one was a b-day present for a friend. I think my next one will be a blue Farmer with the awl replaced by the sheepsfoot blade from a Pioneer Apprentice and a pocket clip added.

Thanks Ron53 for the info, just what I need, another addiction! Sweet knives folks, and yeah, I like a 'semi custom knife' just like the next guy!

The only thing I would change on the farmer is making the steel harder.
If the RC was closer to 58 or higher that would make one fine knife.
The current steel is ok but just too soft. I believe it's close to 12C27
which means it has high edge stability giving you a very sharp edge for
a long time in the higher RCs.

I had the same problem with the key ring stud but solved the problem for me by using a #10 split ring from a fishing tackle store instead of the small key ring they come with. They are normally used to attach treble hooks to heavy salt water fishing lures. because of their size they keep that little ring stud from digging into your hand. Atleast they work for me. I think the #10 I used has a 200 lb pull rating. You need to pry it open and work it around with a pair of needle nose pliers.
The brand I used was kind of pricy about $6 for six and made of stainless steel. You can get the standard chrome ones for half the price and twice as many and should work as well.

Never thought of that. I was thinking of a bail.
