What would be the perfect metal

Frankly....speaking, Dark Ops is not what we want at all. We want custom not poorly engineered "keyboard commando" knives.

I was thinking maraging 300 because i have a sports car made out of that. It is used in a number of applications such as with NASA, and in our missile casings.

Are you honestly saying that you have no idea why your post might not be well-received?

So you're a black-bag spec-ops super-secret operator who drives a custom Cobra sportscar and works with missiles. Are you also dating a supermodel?

No. I never mentioned one word about "black-bag-ops" or super-secret anything. Your mistaken. Go back and read. Check out your vision, it may be an issue or perhaps the monitor. Yes, I do own a Kirkham. Big deal. I am in the security industry. Supermodel....absolutely. My golden-retriever comes from a line of champions. How did you now?

red, that wasn't the reason for my suggestion

bout 1/3 of the way down the page you'll find a list of steels and the pros and cons of each. In addition, you'll also find a plethora of useful information, all of which, if you take the time to read and digest, I'm sure will point in the right direction as to narrowing you search for the "perfect steel".

The reason I am posting this link, is because there is no such thing as the "perfect steel" and that is why your post is being flamed.

and another site for education purposes.

On another note, I can design a knife for you with all of the aforementioned traits.

No...I totally understand there is no "perfect steel" and I wasn't exactly looking for one type. We were looking for several suggestions. Maraging 300 is truly amazing stuff. We read all of Jay Fisher's site. However, he does not cover certain metals, just the most popular. A designer suggested we consider CPMS90V tempered to 59HRC. If we need it a tiny bit easier to sharpen, and very tough, they suggested D2, tempered to 59-60HRC. I just wanted to make sure we covered all our bases before proceeding with the design and testing phases.

Do you work with Jay?
