If you could only bring one fixed blade 5" or less what would you bring?

For me, this small rainforest i spent some time in near northern queensland, Aus. 10 years ago. Just didn't spend enough time there and I have always wanted to go back. For that trip... Falkniven S1

If in the U.S., I've always been a fan of fly fishing but still haven't gotten around to floating the gunnison. Fort that trip... Falkniven F2

Just thought it would be something fun for a light sunday morning day dream.

Mine? Following beartheluckydog around for a few months.

Hehe, Seriously, an outback trip to Australia for backpacking, camping, and relaxin.

Or, a trip to Fiji.

The ultimate outdoor vacation.

Starts with me hitting the lotto. Then a post on WSS inviting and flipping the bill for 40 of you fine folk on an adventure in Australia or Amazon!

My god Tony. There is nowhere on earth ready for 40 of us crazy knife weildin bastids arriving!!

That would be sick though!!!!

A week in the Grand Canyon followed by a week, maybe two hiking sections of the rim.

African Safari. Through about 3 or 4 countries. Alot of plains game, maybe a buffalo or two, a leopard.

Edit: for a knife I would probably bring the JK ewok I have on order. Or else my cord wrapped bushcrafter by Mike

I would go hang with the Kazakhs in Mongolia while hunting with eagles from horseback. It's been a dream trip of mine for years.

I would get another Laconico HWK+ or a Busse Combat Badger Attack III to take with me.

Id love to see Yellowstone as it was 200 years ago. I visited it last year. What a place. Everybody should go once in their lifetime.

since no one has listed their knife yet...........I'd take my Handley Bladesmith tac EDC and go flyfishing for bonefish in the tropics.

2 weeks in the Rockies with my .270 win and a loveless drop point.

Oh, I am going to need permits for everything from Bighorn to bullfrog.

For the location, boy there are so many places I'd love to see or "see again". Spent several months in Ecuador/Peru and would love to go back...everything from your typical jungle to mountains to desert-like savannah in northern Peru.

For the blade, well just looking in the "knife-drawer", I'd most likely take my Ferhman Last Chance or Swamp Rat Ratmandu...both are in the 5" blade range and excellet cutting tools. Thank God, you didn't limit the folding knives:D Most definately my SAK Outrider, Swiss Spirit, BM/Ritter RSK-1 and Spyderco's Para-Mil:thumbup: I might try to sneak my 12" Ontario in if it's a rain forest or jungle though:p

Well, aside from tonym's excellent idea (can you imagine the airport security folks responsible for screening the checked luggage for that trip?), here's my thoughts:

I would like to hit the West Coast for an extended trip. It would start with canoeing and camping in the Yukon, dropped off by bush plane and making my way to a rendezvous point to the south. While I would enjoy doing the trip alone, it might be nice to bring along a few friends (though, only if they had the right mentality). I can see this leg of the trip taking a little over a week, with stops for fishing.

Then it's over to the Northern BC coast (the part that is labelled 'Alaska' on some maps ;) ) for some kayaking. I would make my way South at a decent pace, putting in for the night. This leg of the trip would involve a good chunk of time spent wandering about the Queen Charlotte Islands.

After that, I'd head for the mainland, stopping to share a pint with our Vancouver-area members, and then catch a bus to Clearwater, where I would set out for a two-week canoe (or kayak) trip through Wells Gray Provincial Park, with most of that time spent on Murtle Lake. I would keep a given base camp for two or three days, with mornings spent hiking and afternoon / evenings spent fishing for trout. Throw in a few days for an extended hiking trip up through Wavy Range. Then it's back to civilization and work (which I enjoy).

I really, really wouldn't want to do this trip with just a 5" knife, but if I had to, it would of course be my much-used Delta 5.

Ideally, though, I would bring my edc three-finger scandi, my Delta 5 or a suitably-sized bushcrafter, and a decent axe.

Here's the crazy thing. When you get right down to it, I have no excuse not to plan for a trip like this some time in the next two years. Save for flight costs, it wouldn't break the bank. I'm simply too wrapped up in work to get away for such an excursion at this point - but, fifteen years down the road, I'm sure that I will look back and regret not taking the opportunity to get away from it all for a month or two, just once.

Nice idea for a thread. It has me wanting to get out there!

All the best,

- Mike

PrimitiveMan, I like the way you think!

However, I'd probably go to Alaska myself. I'd love to just live there, but a few weeks would be fine as well. Would probably be taking a good Marlin .45-70 and my Breeden Wharncliffe, since you say under 5 inches. Would probably have to have a good axe up there too.

Oh, I forgot my blade choice!!

It would be my new Laconico model I designed. Its a 4.5in blade, Or maybe the BATAC I am gonna trick out.

I would also have to have my Farmer.
