What would you do if carrying a knife became illegal in your country?

Rules for thee and not for me don't fly..........I make em up as I go..😉
Consider your own risk tolerance level and go from there. Discreet carry in public should be rule #1. Out of sight, out of mind. Cell phone cases are carried on the belts of many folks these days. Cell phones are getting larger and require larger belt cases. Most phones are much longer and wider than a 4" folding knife in its folded position. Many cell phone cases have an additional compartment for keys, ID or some cash. The Night Ize phone case that I EDC on my belt holds my Samsung Galaxy phone and my 4" Cold Steel "Voyager". My knife rides behind the phone in the case. Carried it for several years now, in at least eight different states, without issue. Works for me.

I'm not advocating breaking the law, but you asked the question so here's my response. I moved to California at 21 years old. It can be a felony to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. I carried a Gock 26 or 19 everyday along with an "illegal" knife. I left California three years later and moved back to Florida. I was willing to take the chance. Again I don't recommend breaking the law. However, it literally saved my life one day while hiking in the mountains.

As a side note a lady police officer saw my Glock 26 printing as I walked into a gun show in the city of Oakland. Luckily I had my exhibitor badge around my neck. She acted like she didn't see a thing...but she 100% did.

She swore an oath to uphold the constitution after all. I cannot imagine how challenging it is for LE in California to abide by that oath.

Yeah, I guess since I was selling three tables full of guns, knives and flashlights, she probably didn't think it was a legal fight worth picking, or that I was not some random person just walking into the show. I'm not sure.

You were, most likely, on private property (the show venue site). Had you been walking downtown on a city street, the outcome would almost certainly have been much different. Few, if any, LE types would pass up the chance to make a felony weapons arrest; especially the younger ones looking for promotions.

It pretty much is where I am. I carry a folder anyway, just dont wave it around like an idiot or bleat about it being for "self defence" and your fine, a knife is a useful tool.

I figure this would be my realistic response if carrying a knife became illegal in my jurisdiction. I would just carry discreet, boring folders like an SAK, Opinel, MAM, etc and take care to mind my own business and gamble that most law enforcement won't bother with it as long as you're generally peaceable and respectful. The only real risk here is gambling that you won't run into the one random officer who's having a bad day and decides to ruin yours as well.

"What would you do if carrying a knife became illegal in your country?"

I would remember the Thomas Aquinas quote that "in so far as it deviates from right reason it is called an unjust law; in such case it is no law at all, but rather a species of violence".

BACK ON TOPIC. 1000 lumens will blind your attacker for a few seconds even in daylight. Then run or kick him in the balls. Legal worldwide, you can even take it on a plane.

There are also lasers that can literally blind someone permanently. May be legal in some States, not others. Note: this constitutes "deadly force" as loss of vision would be equated with loss of an eye(s) - "serious bodily harm"

I live where I live , in large part , because it is one of the last places on earth , for such laws to be practically enforced ...even if the rest of USA goes that far wrong .

By that time , the war of words will have become a real and open war . :(

A war "to the knife " . 🤠

Late to the party, here in California while switch blades and butterfly knives are illegal the knife laws otherwise are reasonable enough you can even legally open carry swords here (but no one really does)
Not even the UK has such a draconian ban on knives. I carry but dont advertise and have been decently talented at using a knife in public without wearing a billboard advertising myself to the fact.
