What would you do if you lost your knife?

Let's say you're carrying your very berry favorite knife, and, at some point in the day, you realize you've lost it in a manner that precludes getting it back (storm drain, black hole, left it in a building that was then demolished, whatever) - what would you do? Replace it? Just start carrying a different one you have? Take the opportunity to try something new?

My favorite is a Vic Alox Cadet, so I'd probably just drop the $25 on a new one.

I don't have a lot of knives. I only have two locking folders, each with their own purpose.

If I lost my Griptillian I would probably be back at the store I bought it from before sundown.

I did lose one of my very favorite blades a few years ago. A old Buck 110 that my wife bought me when we first met. Skinned lots of game with that knife before I set it on the bumper of my Jeep and drove off. Still bothers me to even think about it. :(

Part of my decision to buy a knife includes asking myself if I can afford to lose it. The answer is usually "no!", and so all the knives that actually do make it into my pocket are ones that I won't cry if I lose.

Strangely enough, I've never lost one. I like jump-proof pocket clips, or secure sheaths if it's a fixed blade. These are deal-breakers for me, and a folder with a sloppy clip, or a fixed with a loose sheath either gets modded or moved on.

If I actually did lose one, it would not ruin my day. I could probably go home and get another one. If I'm going to be away from the house for long periods, I carry more than one knife, anyway.

But I would feel under-dressed and not properly prepared for the rest of the day, and I would have a serious think about what I need to do to keep it from happening again.

Thats a real shame. The only thing worse is losing one and not knowing where/how you lost it. I still have a knife that disappeared years ago and I expect it to turn up somewhere. I am moving in a few weeks and am somewhat hopeful it will turn up in the move.

I hope your wife got you a new 110 so you can continue using it.

I'm not married to any particular knife that I have, so I'd probably just get another knife out of the knife chest and start carrying it. Probably wouldn't be the same model I lost. I like everything I have or I don't keep it. It would just be a chance to drive a different model for a while. I may or may not replace it.

Yes, losing it and always having a glimmer of hope in the back of your mind of finding it is the worst... Sigh. Been there done that.

Like most people here on the forum I've got plenty of knives so I'd grab another....problem solved. If I really liked the lost knife I'd definitely replace it. Why not?

If feasible I'd go back and look for it.

Did just that a week ago. Went to the dentist, got home and my knife was gone. Then I remembered something twitching in the grass on the sidewalk outside the office door when I pulled my car keys out of my pocket. Didn't see anything at the time but when I went back Saturday morning - there it was!

Wish it were that easy to get back the ones stolen from my house years ago :-(

I have a spare for my EDC folder, in case it's lost/stolen/destroyed or breaks and needs to go in for repair. Also, you never know when your favorite knife will get discontinued, it happens all the time, especially to some of the best designs out there (BM AFCK and similar :( )

When I fell in love with my micarta inlaid Sebenza, I had to sell most of my 'collection' to fund the spare. It was worth it. Now, instead of having 10 knives that aren't 'perfect' (for me), I have two that are ideal in every way.

Hey buddy what did you lose? My favorite at the moment is a tricked out XM24 worth around $2000. I do carry it and would be greatly saddened if I lost it.

But I would move on with another knife.

I would do what I have always done....replace it...and buy something else to make myself feel better :D

I keep spares of my very berry favorite using knives. That would be a particular Vic SAK for me. So, I would just get a new one out of the box when I got home. If I was on an extended hiking trip, I'd just cry and then probably have to use the other knife I have on me.

I do try out knives a fair amount if they fall within a certain favored size range or along the lines I hope I might gravitate to as an edc. Some of you guys however apparently buy an amazing number of knives to handle and try out and then sell if it doesn't seem right. I just dump mine in one of my rubbermaid tubs or other storage tubs. I was looking for a particular knife the other day, and I discovered that I in fact have two tubs full of knives and a couple smaller stackable nicer storage containers for the better stuff that I look at or handle a fair amount.

Get another one if I liked it that much. No big deal. If I was eyeing something else as a "replacement" losing it would be an excuse to do it. Not much to think about.

I'd be really pissed/disappointed, and buy another to replace it. My irreplaceable knives only have sentimental value.
