Okay, so I bought a Chinese knife.... yeah, yeah, I know, I know, but said knife caught my eye. Six weeks went by and the tracking number still showed it in China. I contacted the seller and he shipped a new knife. Got the replacement a week later. Now two weeks have passed and I just got an email from USPS stating that the original knife would be arriving soon. Is it bad in the total karmic realm to gift the origianal knife to a family member? I feel kinda guilty, though I did nothing wrong

What say you the Bladeforums crowd? Should I send it back? Keep it? Gift it away? Sell it?

Send it to me :D

Nah, in all honesty you didn't do anything wrong. Not your fault it took forever. Keep it and do whatever you want with it.

Return it or pay for it. That's what I would do.

I know that at least domestically if you refuse to accept delivery it will be returned to sender.

If you decide to keep it then you would owe the shipper the cost of the knife.

Either way I'd advise the sender. Never know, he may just say keep it.

If you don't mind my asking, how much are we talking about here, the cost of the knife that is?

I would just keep it, he gets it for cost anyways and atleast doubles the price, so he doesn't lose much money if any, just loses a bit of profit. Don't complicate it. Stuff happens.

The knife sells for around $70 plus shipping on the well known auction site.

Reason I asked is because if it was a sub $20 knife it might not even be worth it to the sender for you to return it. $70 is kinda up there. Never know though.

Still, if it were me I's have to at least contact he sender and let him know what's going on and ask how he wants to proceed.

Hope it all works out well for you.

I would make every attempt to return it.
The seller was kind enough and had enough honesty and integrity to send you a replacement, where is yours? Honesty and integrity that is....

jjoanty01, grownstar, Pete3,

Put the shoe on the other foot.

Suppose you sell someone a knife here on BF. It gets lost in shipping somewhere. The buyer contacts you and--even though you have already sent the knife and have no control over the shipping--you send him another knife just to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure he doesn't lose out.

Then you find out your buyer gets both knives. What would you expect him to do? Would you expect him to just keep it becaue "stuff happens?" Would you even expect him to WONDER what he should do? Or would you expect him to contact you immediately, thank you for going above and beyond to take care of him, and immediately ask about sending one knife back?

Contact the seller and see what would he want you to do. If returning back is an hassle, pay for it - the seller showed exceptional honesty and integrity by going by your word. Good luck!

This is the best answer. I once bought a couple of mags for one of my guns on Ebay and the seller sent me an extra one by mistake. Guess what I sent more money. I'm surprised you have to ask what to do.

There's a rule that covers this situation......what is the rule called.......let me think.................oh yeah! It's the Golden Rule "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you".

Seems like your seller had a pretty good grip on that rule.

I agree. Accountability and integrity, doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

I'm surprised so many people would be willing to keep the knife if they were in the op's situation...
