What would you need to start knife making?

The not investing twice idea is my biggest concern right now. I am just getting started and am trying to make sure that I don't waste a bunch of money. I want to get it right the first time! I can't get top of the line stuff right now, but I want tools that will do a good job and last. The highest quality piece of equipment that I am getting will be the drill press. I can get a nice one without spending all of my money at once.

Depending on how much money you have to layout I would say to get a top end grinder. I would also drop the money on a Foredom tool before I dropped $300 on a drill press. Just me though.

but i was creative enough to think rehab'ing a few old knives was a good idea:D I quickly got a little perspective on some things;) namely that i didnt have it, that thing that separates the talented makers from the basement hacks like myself... Dont get me wrong, i did alright but it was a roller coaster, and i'm not sure i would jump on the chance again.
Maybe try modding or rehab'ing then progress into dropping the coin on better equipment, etc...
good luck in whatever you decide
