What would you rather carry?

And why not??? The Cult wants to know!

:D

Carl, Grand High Mucka Of The Cult.

Dear Grand High Mucka,

I'm fairly new to collecting/buying/using traditionals [Edit: bought my first GEC in early August] and had just not gotten around to getting a Peanut yet. It was, however, very high on my wish list. But I just got a very, very generous offer and will soon be a bona fide Peanut carrying member of the cult. :)

The nostalgia for these 4-way screwdrivers led me to pick one up the last time I was at Sears -- the thing I had forgotten, in the decade since I last had one on my keychain, is that they are the pokingest things you will ever meet. Like a little unfinished ninja star. After a week, those little tabs had found their way up under my fingernail on enough occasions of reaching into my pocket for my keys, that I once again relegated it to the Box o' Miscellany (you know, the one that every guy seems to have.)

hah! aint that the truth!
thats exactly where my p38 and my 4 way screw driver ended up too

Wegner Standard Issue- no question
despite the arguments of others, ask yourself. What can your peanut do that your sak cant? nothing except look pretty
what can your sak do that your peanut cant? LOTS

sure you can augment your peanut with other items, but its just more stuff! more stuff on your key chain, or in your pocket (or even in your wallet lol)
the sak keeps all the stuff in one package, convenient, easy and ... efficient

just my thoughts

I have a strong respect and connection to the peanut and SAK's in general, my preference for SAK is the farmer. I carried a farmer from early teens to my late thirties, and still carry it, but not everyday, it treated me well on a 3 month solo cross country trip on foot, countless camping trips, backpacking around Europe and work. Can't deny it's dependability and utility. The last 20 months the peanut has graced my pocket everyday, most days paired with another knife, but that's because I am a knife nut. I'm a firm believer of being prepared and being responsible for yourself, a few items in your pockets and some common sense can turn a unexpected night in the outdoors into a camp out.
These days I always have my peanut, zippo, one piece multitool, twine, handkerchief, sometimes a flashlight but not always.

My choice for SAK is the tinker. I use the Philips head a lot. Of the two...I carry a pemberton. Use it a lot. The other night on the road...got back to the hotel with dinner and saw they had forgotten to include utensils ...no problem...pemberton can be used as a knife and a fork. ( I was alone...wife would kill me if I did that in public)

A Jr. Stockman and a Vic Farmer. The Farmer is the universal Boy Scout-army knife of the last century. The pattern must have got something right. But the Farmer adds a good saw, and it's still easy to pocket.

If someone made a Farmer equivalent with better steel and stag covers I'd be all over it.

If I could only carry one it would have to be the spartan.

The knife in my pocket or on my belt changes everyday but I always carry my vic rambler on my keys.

I've become so accustomed to always having a toothpick and bottle opener on me I think I would go into withdraws without them.

I need to get a peanut as I think it would do well
I have carried a Sak at work for over 15 years and 9 times out of 10 I grab my other edc If I need a knife
The same only gets used if my other edc is "scary" looking to the non knife people in my office or if I need a screwdriver (which is rare as I have a small toolkit in my desk)

I just don't like how soft the blade steel is on my vitronox

Of the 3 you mentioned - The Pioneer.

What I have been carrying lately at work - Case Yellow Peanut or a GEC Ebony Pemberton.

My choice for SAK is the tinker. ...

mine too. i need a phillips screwdriver more than i need a corkscrew.
i suppose if push came to shove and i just *had* to have some wine i could dig the cork out with the smaller blade. or, you know, buy screw top lol.

I used to carry a Victorinox Tinker (Or other Vic's) as a secondary but after i bought a Case Peanut, i carry it almost everyday. I love it. Its the perfect size, so i'd choose a Case Peanut :) But if i needed a certain tool, like a corkscrew or a screwdriver i'd probably choose one of the SAK's. But in general i'd choose the Peanut :)

It's not science, it's not reason. I love a knife over a multi-tool. I take the Peanut : pleasure to carry, to look at and to use (especially if it's a clip /wharnie combination...).

I have an alox farmer I use for camping and wet days outdoors. I don't carry it everyday. I also have a peanut that I have yet to carry. I am usually carrying something between the farmer and peanut size wise.
