What you can't STAND in your knives...

I hate when a knife is too light in my hand for it's size, that's not to say I dislike light small knives, but the weight should just feel right for
the size of the knife. My little cousin handed me his 4 inch + knife the family christmas party last night and it was just way too light to be that size.

The blade scratching another blade(case's stockmans) as it made scratches when you open it/close it....arghhhh.

Don´t like scratches on my polished blades...

A large choil on a small fixed blade. Why not run the blade all the way to the handle? Then the index finger would be right there and we would not need a choil. Plus we would gain extra cutting edge with no more snag on soft material.

I can't see why so many knife designs allow only the edge & very tip of the knife to sit in the handle. A folding knife's handle is it's sheath. A knife's sheath should have good blade coverage. There are a LOT of great knives out there that are overall excellent, however, get a failing grade from me. Design sometimes takes over function.

Here we go:
Rust, partially serrated blades (fully serrated is sometimes ok like on my boat or for use as a sd blade), painted or just cheesy blade/pocket clip finishes, super thin blade washers that get torn apart over time, poor factory edges (can be fixed easily but a knife should come sharp), jimping thats there but might as well not be. Might be more but thars it off the top of my head.

Cant stant when they leave about 1" of blade with no edge ( Exmaple Cold Steel SRK )
Cant Stand Bad Balance
Cant Stand Blocky Handles
Cant Stand short handles

Okay, here we go:

-Cheap blade or pocket clip coating
-Uneven grind
-Bad lockup
-Blade play
-Blades that rub the liners of the handle when closed
-Dull tips
-Dull factory edge
-Small handles
-Overly blocky handles
-Of course, rust

Okay there we go! That's my list of things I can't stand when a knife has.

I hate the ones with bonuses to intelligence and charisma. Knives should only have bonuses to strength, dexterity, and quickness. Unless you're a skald or a bard of course.

Relief cut outs on the opposing side liner that most people seem to like. They're supposed to make it easier to disengage the lockbars. I hate them. They look tacky and make knives asymmetrical. I can manipulate lockbars just fine without those index finger cutouts.

Jimping or gimps whatever they're called, ugly pocket clips like some of the kershaw/onion designs, stupid pivots that require a special tool, lanyard holes on a tip down only knife, finger grooves (not choils), glass breakers.

twid that reminds me jimping! I don't mind when it's there (it works) but if its there and it doesn't help no es bueno total kill joy :thumbdn:

Choils in front of the pivot that make the blade cutting edge shorter. Good example...Spyderco Super Leaf. I would have bought the knife in a heartbeat if

it didn't have the choil.

What you can't STAND in your knives...

The way I interpret your question, you're askin' in my knives, the ones I own, What I can't STAND in my knives... ?

I can't think of anything, if I couldn't stand it I wouldn't keep it, so my answer would be...nothin'.

It may be easier just to tell what I like in my knives, and the opposite is what I can't stand. So going that way, when I buy a folder I want;

-I want 5+ ounce weight
-I want thick blade stock, at least 5/32" and up
-I want a liner lock, framelock, or Axis lock
-I want thick liners, .070" and up
-I want no bladeplay in any direction
-I want a stiff lock that requires conscious effort to unlock
-I want a centered blade when closed
-I want phospher/bronze washers
-I want even grinds, excellent fit/finish, and a sharp edge from the factory/maker
-I want the correct heat treat for the blade steel
-I want the edge grind to match up with my Sharpmaker, 40 degrees inclusive
-I want a lot of things I don't get:D
-I want to start my OCD medication;):)

Cheap liner locks....they're a disaster waiting to happen.
Yep Had to retire a CRKT m-16 because of this, it was one of my main edc at work blades until I realized that the lock was failing... In all fairness though I did use the crap out of it for about 5 years before that. Now i just treat it as slip joint and don't carry it for anything serious... The only other thing i cant really stand besides what others have listed is the gap between the back of a folding blade and the handle it makes it look unfinished when closed...

Blade play. I got a SOG flash2 and out the box hated it because of the play, gave it away.

I finally decided to check out a spyderco so I went to a local shop and handled a paramilitary...side to side play:(
