What you don't (!) like about a Sebenza?

In Keeping with the spirit of this thread, I absolutely love my small regular sebenza. EDC'd since Christmas.
What I would love to see changed is the following:

-have an opening hole option. I prefer them over thumbstuds
-a more "melted" handle. It's just my personal preference. I find them more comfortable on the hands for extended use
-a full length backspacer that could be purchased as an add-on to prevent the coins in pocket problem.
-a flat ground blade!!!!!!!!!!!

just my 2 cents worth. I really like the knife!!!

I disagree. With most knives, you need to bead blast with round smooth beads so, you POUND the surface of the steel. In an incorrectly blasted blade, the surface gets scratched up, and this is very bad, because it allows for rust. (I believe this is what CRKT does or at least did, because they used to rust like the devil) Not if you did this with Titanium, where rust isn't an issue, you'd get a deeper layer of blasting that would more readily accept scratches. I don't know if you've handled a pinnacle before, but it takes scratches a lot better.

I've re-blasted many a Sebenza with Zirblast, the ceramic blast media. If you have ever handled a Carson or Obenauf folder with titanium bolsters, your looking at the result of Zirblast b-60. When I reblast a Sebenza, I am trying to get the knife to look like the Carson. It resists alot more sratches than the stock blasted Sebenza.

A collaboration Seb, that wont turn out like the CRKT one.
Also, how about a handle finish like the blade? (stonewashed)

Oh yeah? I disagree!

:)

FWIW, once you get ONE scratch, regardless the size of it, all bets are off. Then I don't care if it's all scratched at that point. Matter of fact, if it was the snazzy bead blast you mention and then there's one scratch, it's almost more annoying having just the one scratch, visible against all that nice blasting work to remind you what it once was and how you screwed up the knife.

I'd like a Sebenza with Bob Dozier's thumbstud. The Sebenza thumbstud is not user-friendly. It is very uncomfortable. And that is why I sold my Sebenza.

I wish Sebenzas that came with dual thumbstuds as a regular feature. Then you wouldn't have to place a special order and wait months to get your knife.

I also wish that Sebenzas had a flat ground blade instead of the hollow grind. It wouldn't even have to be a regular offering. It would be great if CRK made a few of these knives every year, like they do the LE woodies.

A small sebbie with the orginal (regular) blade shape on the website illustrations, flat ground.

I can think of only 3 small suggestions for improvement to absolute perfection:
  • tip-down carry
  • different design for clip to prevent snagging & scratching
  • different design on thumbstuds to be easier on thumbs

All in all, the Sebenza is a work of art! Extremely well made, well designed, beautifully executed, and robust as all outdoors. Gotta love 'em. :D

Flat ground blade and they would be perfect. Maybe a middle size sebenza.

The clip needs some work. It does not work with slacks (great with jeans, though).
I know I am going to catch he(( for this, but use thinner titanium in the slabs for the large Sebbies. That thing is heavy. (I still won't give mine up)
Flat grind would be cool....

It is a great knife. The anodization wears off pretty fast for me. I would like a bit more longlasting color. That said, I am spoiled by it's effectiveness a a knife.

I like tip down also, but its not a worry. I miss the BG42. My small wood classic seems to hold a god edge. But my small plain is a real dissappointment. I just found out CR had Replaced the BG42 blade in my large plain Sebenza without my knowledge or permission. I would like to have been asked if thats ok. (wouldnt have found out if I hadnt cleaned it this weekend) So ,I'm a tad bit unhappy about this. I really like the fit, but....

Not really accurate to the thread as it's not a dislike, it's just something i'd like to see - maybe in the future ;)
An option of the Limited Edition on a Classic frame ( I believe others have said the same thing )

I now EDC a Limited Edition and although it's my favourite gripper/user, I just prefer the classic shape  - which I carry on another knife at work.

Of course, in the current climate I'm talking into the wind :D
1. People who collect LE's will probably want them in the same styling as the ones they already have.
2. Manufacturing is very limited, so to change milling machines, etc for a few pieces does not make sense.

My apologies if this does't fit squarly into the thread of things we don't like !! But, i am hard pushed to think of one other thing

To keep everything flowing well:

1. Micarta inlay on the regular
2. Clip down carry
3. ti backspacer
4. Thumb disk

That is all.

I have regular Sebenza in BG42. It's a fantastic piece of enginering. :)

As for dislikes and suggested improvement.

Thumb stud. Replace with dual stud and redesign so it can be opened with gloves on either hand.
The Grind. Replace with flat grind.
The inability to "flick" the knife without voiding the warranty. Fix what ever limits this.
Lastly the price. Got to say, good as they are, in my view there over priced.

Pretty much just a tip down carry option would do it for me. Everything else is splitting hairs (pun intended).
