What's a cheaper Sebenza alternative?

Where did you get this knife, i'm not familiar w/it

??

The above pic of the S-2 was taken off the net. I don't own that knife.

I figured that it would be less confusing than my S-2 shown below (this knife I do own):

I'm not a huge sebenza fan, but if that's what you're really after, it might be best just to save up another half a year and get what you really want.

I vote for the Buck/Mayo 172. I've been carrying it for about 4 months now. It's not a sebenza but it's very nice, sometimes you can get them for $125 or even a bit less.

S2's are OK, but their lock face area is pretty small, and lately their used price has started going back up.

I also vote for the Buck/Mayo 172. It is a great knife!! I have one. It is no Sebbie, but it is a great knife. It is slim.

I've seen on knifezilla.com an even cheaper "Sebbie" (I guess it's around 10$). I wouldn't advise you to get yourself one, though

You might take a look at the Spyderco Military model or the Benchmade Ritter Griptillian model. In several reviews they both outcut the Sebbie by a wide margin. Go to British Blades website for review specs.

i totally agree with this.

these days i find that the only knives that make it into my pocket are my ZDP leek, BM auto-benchmite, Strider PT, and BM mini pika.

it would be alright, except that i got at least 2 dozen or so entry and mid-level offerings that just sit around.

stick around knife collecting and you'll probably find one Seb is quite cheap compared to having several, or having real custom knifes, or having fine Japanese blades etc. ;-)

Another 101 knifes to replace a real winner for less of course, how about going to the next knife show in your area and pick them up, play with them and then buy one?

Pictures can be deceiving and who can tell what is right for you, but you?

So i would take note of some of these knifes that catch your eye above and go to a knife show and see for yourself which one is best for you. GL

Hunt down a "Benchmenza", the Benchmade 750, on the second-hand market.

In fact, hunt down two and send me one!

It has Ti grips and an ATS-34 blade.

...or a Benchmade 635-60 Mini Skirmish. Ti scales and an S30V blade.

There are Ti frame locks, and there is the Sebenza. The Sebenza has a bushing that is only found in more expensive knives like customs. You won't find it in cheaper frame locks like the Benchmades or CRKT. This bushing prevents the washers from being mashed, keeping you from having to find the "sweet spot" when adjusting the pivot screw. For a knife to have a bushing, you will need to have some pretty tight tolerances.
The previous knives mentioned are great knives, but you get what you pay for.

Why settle for second best? I don't like the idea of buying my second best only to regret it later. I end up selling the second best at a lost and still buy by first choice later down the road. Save your green stamps, sell your unused knives, and get the Sebenza of your choice.

Another vote for this great value of a knife.
The only negative I have heard is folks getting used to the blade shape which is a little off the wall but actually I got used to it quick, I think the blade has a very self defense feel to it. It is lightwieght and very sturdy , it is not overly thick although it is somewhat of a pocket hog. Very beefy titanium scales and pocket clip , ats34 which is not bad by any means.
I paid under 30$ for mine and am glad I got in on the deal , I think this knife is a good example of "paying for the name" on certain knives , just IMO.
The knife can easily be upgraded to phos bronze or stainless washers (I put phos bronze on mine for under 1$) , giving it even more of a vault like feel.
As you can see Oregon did a kickass job of anodizing his. I am sure all of the aforementioned knives are great blades , especially the Sebenza but yea , not all of us want to drop 400 plus on a production knife.

I was reading some past posts in the archives and saw a thread that stated that CRKT had collaboration with Chris Reeves to make a knife but CR was not happy with it and the project was canned. I did some searching on the web and found this "japanese" site with a pic.

The knife looks interesting regardless.

I guess with the rabid "Sebenza-ites" out there that a collaboration like this would not be considered again.

Very well put. In my opinion, there is no alternative to the Sebenza. You either own one or you don't. Never settle for something less, because you will most likely end up regretting it and want the Sebenza again.
