What's around your neck?

Whenever I head to the great outdoors or even deep sea fishing I always carry my little survival kit. Some folks here I read make a little survival kit out of an altoids tin. I found something perfect for me, it's a plastic soap container. It's a good size, a bit bigger than the altoids tin and thus carries more than the altoids tin without being cumbersome. I also carry (with some redundancy to what's in my survival kit,) some things on a lanyard around my neck. On my neck lanyard I have:

1. Light my fire firesteel (the smaller one)
2. The striker that came with it.
3. stainless steel credit card sized mirror
4. thin profile whistle or small aluminum whistle. Some aluminum whistles come with a very small compartment. I got that one and in the compartment I managed to fit 2 small gold hooks with 20 feet of spiderwire fishing line and 2 small fishing flies!
5. small knife (one that has lanyard hole) in my case, it is a very light spyderco ladybug.

Seems cumbersome, but it really is not and I feel better having some extra things with me just in case anything happens to my survival kit. If I lose my survival kit I can at least make fire, potentially fish for food, or use the spiderwire as a snare, signal for help (day or night with the firesteel or mirror) and make myself heard. Don't think I could do much with a ladybug but better than nothing if I lost my main knife along with the survival kit. I know I could at least skin something or gut a fish.

So, what's on your lanyard when you are out in the great outdoors?

The great majority of my time in the outdoors is spent hunting, most of which is from an elevated position (treestand) and therefore I don't like wearing things around my neck. However, I ALWAYS have my HRLM with me and in its accessory sheath I have a firesteel, mini bic, aluminum foil, whistle, button compass, and tinder. This is in addition to my big kit in my backpack.

Hi everybody I normally carry a crkt fixed falcon. Attached to the sheath is a
flint and mag bar that I got from the World Survival Intute. Here is the pic.

I really like neck carry and over the shoulder carry. Here is a over the shoulder

MMM nice Canadian belt knife. I just found my dad's old Grohman belt knife at the bottom of the tackle box, cleaned it up a bit, sharpened it, now its ready for another few decades of services. I'll post some pic's later.

I have a Michael Cooper (L6 Steel) neck knife I wear when walking/ jogging at night. My dad has the twin to it.

Base plate Suunto, Spyderco LED (to match my edc:D), on elastic cord. Goes inside the shirt until needed. The elastic is the stuff that is made for clothing hems and will break with moderate force. It has worked well for me several years.:)Regards, ss.

A Becker necker with small fire steel...Everything else is in my knife pouch's and or belt/bag.

Sicily02 - do you wear that shoulder rig inside a coat or outside your coat under cooler/rain conditions? Looks like a good idea.

Some folks have indicated the safety issue of wearing a cord, particularly something like paracord with 550 lbs tensile strength, around your neck. This can be compensated by engineering a break away link somewhere on the loop. For example, I think some people tear out the small fibres of the parachord and feed in the stainless steel chain with break-away holder through the parachord. This way the parachord can break free before it breaks your neck or pulls you into the carbine.

Are there any other examples of break-away systems for neck carry options?
