What's around your neck?

I rarely carry round my neck. I have an Osprey pack that can haul plenty of gear and my belt and pockets see lots of use too.
 
a hammer and a bullnose necker. pics are somewhere, once i have power maybe i'll update
 
kgd I were that rig both ways. Mostly though I were on the out side of my shirt or coat.

My compass and whistle are on a commercial strap that comes with a breakaway feature. The same is available in many, if not all, college book stores. Mine says "Ohio State" on it and is a bright red.
 
I fully understand the idea and availability of breakaways. But if someone grabs the cord by the clasp, you are toast. That said, I still would not be comfortable wearing even a thin cotton thread around my neck. That is just me and the way I was taught. It was drummed into my head and it is stuck there. YMMV. :)

With a break away neck chain it doesn't matter where someone grabs it as it will readily snap before it can be used to harm you.
