A: The Spyderco Renegade!
It's GIN-1 Steel and it can be found for about $50.00
I can't wait to get one. :D

I like many of Spyderco's designs, but I've never really been into lockback knives. Although it IS possible to close them with one hand, it is kinda awkward, and not nearly as convenient as linerlocks, framelocks, etc. Wish they would do something about it!

That's the first good looking Spyderco I've ever seen. But, it's not better than my AFCK:D

For ease of use(not to mention strength and reliability) NOTHING I repeat NOTHING even comes within yellin' distance of the BM Axis lock. If you don't own one yet, shame on you!:p

I agree, most spydercos are fugly! Except the Civilian and the other hawk/hook bill models...but those are suposed to be ugly and scary looking.

I trust lockbacks, I've yet to have one fail on me. :p

I would have agreed a year ago, that spydercos are fugly, after using them, i love the way they look, mainly because of the way they work.

I've never owned a Spydie, I really want a serrated Civilian but the $120. - $150. price tag always keeps me from buying one. :grumpy: Because of the high price I might get a merlin, matriarch, or spyderhawk instead.

Amen to that! I saw my first Spyderco knife around 1992. It was my brother's Delica. It was a fully serrated model and I thought it was the stoooopidest lookin' knife I had ever seen. I don't know how long it took me to convert myself, but soon I was totally enamored with their knives. I have a few Delicas (never liked the Endura), a Copilot SS, and a Walker linerlock. They're all great, and all take a natural shaving-sharp edge easily on a Profile medium stone. In fact, I never even bother with the fine stone! There are many other models I would get if money were no object. I think the Renegade is quite cool looking.

That's a nice Spyderco, but it's not as good overall as the AFCK. For price, ease of opening and closing, and overall quality, it is hard to beat the AFCK. Every AFCK I have ever seen has been able to be opened by a mere flick of the wrist, and not using the opening hole. All while still not having any blade play.

I have always liked the folding bowie looks of the Renegade but I still think that the AFCK wins out in looks. I just don't like the butt of the Renegade and the blade of the AFCK looks nicer.

That Renegade is a nice looking knife! But I don't like the hole it really looks like it weakens the knife, the grind is too close to the hole. The lock is not even close as good as the Benchmade axis! So I would take the AFCK D2 over that Spyderco hands down.

Very nice knife indeed, but I still prefer the AFCK (my favorite folder design).

Is it gonna be available with a fully serrated edge?

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I'm looking at my AFCK and comparing it to the hole in the Renegade. It looks like the AFCK hole is just as close to the grind as the Renegade is. Of course this is just an approximation. Still, I like my 806 better than the Renegade, and I wholehartedly agree the Axis lock is stronger.

I think they're just offering it in combo and plain. But I could be wrong.

Personally I just have a thing against frame locks and axis locks. I prefer the Ol' lockbacks. If I want a real fast opening knife I'll use my Whirlwind or Boa. The AFCK had problems with people disengaging the liner locks on the original models, when they tried to pull and twist the knife from a target. And the axis w/ the dual springs just doesn't seem very reliable in the long run. Even if it still functioned fine w/ only the one spring, why would I want a half broken lock? I'd rather take my chances with the Old Reliable Lockback design.

Seems like pulling your knife out of something, even if the liner disengages, would only keep the blade deployed, not make it fold since you are in essence pulling the handle away from the blade. Don't see how that could be a problem.

I would guess just about anything would be better IMO, I think the AFCK looks cheap by design, never have liked them, have been given 2 and found one before I gave them all away and never thought twice about it. The Renegade has a good feel to it, it opens rough when new though but Most Spyderco's do. No problem with the lockback here. The blade shape is something different so has a cool/wicked look.

Most people who don't like the looks of Spyderco's don't understand them: Function before Form. they may look Fugly but they will fit the hand and perform better then their counterparts from other manufacturers. I like 'em.
