Had a nasty cold all week but it finally cleared up enough that I could put on a mask and finish up this little mistake. I say that because everything about this knife changed because of mistakes I made along the way. But I learned quite a lot.

This was my first time doing a hidden tang. The bolster is paper micarta and the handle is natural G10 (ghost jade). The handle started out as two 1/2" thick slabs. I milled out the slot for the tang. The handle is held together with G-flex, hidden pins, stainless tang pin and stainless lanyard tube. I piened the pin and lightly swelled the lanyard tube with a pointed punch. The blade is Aldo's 1095 that was edge quenched, etched, and stonewashed.

I'm rehabilitating the disk sander I just received in the mail. I would normally return it in the condition I got it, but I paid $100 less than retail. Like they say, there's always a reason for the price... I was still disappointed as Amazon listed it in like new condition. One foot had broken off, the brake lever is toast, one of the table adjustment knobs crushed, and a chunk of the shroud knocked out. I don't have the gear to weld cast iron, but I think JB weld will suffice as I still have 3 solid mounting points. Here are some pics of the carnage:

P.S. -- Do I have to resize high-res photos before I link via photobucket, or can I do it the post editor some how? These photos are too big, I think. I guess the attach command will work.

A couple of Wharncliffe style utility knives, both are 1/8" 1084 from Aldo. Already heat treated, quenched in canola and tempered at 375 degrees twice for two hours, the smaller one is hand sanded to 1000 grit and the larger one is ground to 220 grit and ready for hand sanding. The larger one was hollow ground using a 10" wheel and for the smaller one I used a 5" wheel. I'm going for. A high polish finish on both so rust will be easier to manage.

These are going to be gifts for my brother and his wife. My brother works in the instrument shop at a nuclear power plant and his wife has a similar background though she recently changed professions.

Nice work everyone, looking good!

This week in our shop: the first batch of our new paring knife the "trillium" has been milled and hand finished. They are in HT currently. We also milled G10 handles for them in dark red today.

Putting the final touchs on some heading out the door and others about to be posted.

Squasy,

Very nice. One of my favorites styles from days gone by.

its a nice design for sure,Tony bose sent me the drawings so in his debt! and he sent me the bone for the scales! ill have to send him a crate of Guinness!

I'm getting married on Saturday. Between now and then, I need to finish up all this:

All the 'hawks and five of the knives need Kydex sheaths.

If everything keeps going as smoothly as it has been, I can pull it off, though I will probably be taking them with me to mail to customers from the honeymoon trip. My loverly bride-to-be, bless her heart, is ok with this. :)

Wednesday is my rest day in the middle of the week from the gym, so I work in the shop when I usually go to the gym after work and school.

I started working on my second batch of EDC knives. Full Flat, convex edge geometry with the new rotary platen. Even and straight grinds.

First time using the rotary platen, so I need some practice...

Looks like everyone has some neat stuff going on.

Those look neat Brian. Nice grinds!

@Storm Crow: Congrats!

We've been posting updates as we go through the development process for our paring knife (the trillium). Today the first "production" trillium was completed!

There is a lot of cool stuff going on!
Here is one I finished last week.
Aldo's 1095, Darrin Sanders heat treat, Olive canvas micarta, G10 liners, stainless pins and lanyard tube.
Leather sheath by me.
Still trying to figure out how to mark my logo with a battery charger.

Congratulations Stormcrow/James! And nice article in Tactical Knives too....

NorthArm, I like the textured surface, I suspect this may help when cutting certain things, breaking the suction effect some foods have?

What I'm up to:

And the FSAE Car at my school. It's not knife related but it sure makes school exciting for me.

I've been TIG welding for a little over half a year now. Still got a lot to work on but it's improving steadily.

Thanks! We get that question a lot. Some customers have remarked that they notice less food sticking, however we have not had definitive results in our attempts to test this.

Started using my newly built gas forge. This is my second one. My first "forge" was a pile of fire bricks that I pointed my O/A torch into, very inconvenient.

I was trying to forge weld but the little fuel cylinder kept freezing.

I got some really cool looking scale out of the deal.

Still bashing out Damascus steel by hand, and trying to improve my skills. Here`s a little twisted steel(112 layers 1084 and 15n20) with copper, stainless and blackwood. Blade is just over 4.25"
Darcy:)
