What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

So it has been some time since I posted anything and about the same time since I made a blade. So over the last month or so I got off my duff and did some work. I currently have three blades in the works and one finished.

The top blade is what I'm calling my peanut butter knife its 15" of 1/4" 5160 at about 57-58 RC, I get the big jars of peanut butter, with red and black layered micarta and 1/4" stainless steel pins. The next one down is a 9 3/16" dagger with a 4 1/2" blade that will get ebony slabs and stainless pins. Next we have a blade that I'm dubbing "Joey's blade" due to the fact that I'm making it for the gentleman that is letting me use his shop and grinders, I can't afford a TW90. Last is what is going to be my new belt knife, to replace my Bark River Gunny I lost some time back. All of them have a convex blades and with the exception of the peanut butter knife they are .204, and all are 5160. As the picture shows the dagger and belt knife are freshly hardened and will be getting tempered this afternoon. I'm not sure what I'm going to use for handle materials for Joey's blade or for my belt knife right yet, but most likely it will be micarta.

Some nice looking knives being posted up.
I especially like Hatcher's recurved blank, can't wait to see what it looks like done.

I just finished up a little non knife project. I wanted to make something for the wife so I pounded out some more mokume.
I used more nickle this time and I think it turned out really nice. I hope she likes it.

Awesome stuff everyone!

Here's a boring picture of the next one to eventually be:

And I know I keep posting up the non-knife-related car, but it makes me just as proud as anything else I do:

Spent some time today cleaning up my rough grinds. Got a brushed satin finish I'm pleased with. Roughing was done with a 50/100 grit Blaze, HT to RC 60, ran coarse/med/fine Norax felt belts until fine satin brush.

DIY Heat Treat Oven in progress pics. If there is interest I will make a WIP thread for it.

First picture is of a metal box that was laying around from who knows what. I though that would be perfect for a oven. Well it was a little bit too big. (pardon the glare and cruddy phone pics)

Since it was too big I cut the top off to bring it to size. I will cover the top with sheet metal and screws so it is removable should the need arise. The top will actually be recycled for the door.

Next went in the ceramic blanket material to insulate it even more and keep everything even and tight.

And lastly so far today. I did a dry fit of my firebricks not all of them of course. I got 2600 degree bricks cause the 2300 were sold out so they gave them to me for the same price. Very cheap! Score!

did my first neck knives yesterday with a single bevel and a crisis chisel grind and first kydex sheaths and first time using horse mat rubber.

Switching to flat grinding for a bit... Here's a paring I finished earlier in the week along with the hunter I just posted in F/S.

It's a bit on the large side for a paring, but not excessively so, at least depending on which hands you find it in.

Nice one Ian. It seems like there are always makers who catch your attention, and you really like their knives. Yours are one of them for me. I always enjoy seeing your latest creation.

Recently began my journey into the actual making of knives. I have my first four I'm about to send out to heat treat but here's what I've been playing around with waiting for handle material and more steel to come in. I decided to repurpose some of my grandfathers old files that were kind of worn down and not sharp enough to be worth using as files. Made two oyster knives that are waiting on handle material and a smaller but stout little knife. The small forge I made out back seems to have worked very well. Annealing and HTing the blades went pretty smoothly and after running the knife through its paces it seems that the heat treat worked very well. More so than I expected. The tip can be stabbed deep into a hardwood stump and pulled on until it pulls a wood plug out with it, it also holds an excellent edge. Im going to leave the file marks and just round the edges.
