Cru wear petty 180 mm

Some cold weather work. After pondering a recent post, I decided to make a drop point hunter with a 4.5 inch blade, as a prototype, started as a sketch last night. I usually prefer to make sub 3.5 inch blade knives, but wanted to give it a go. Handle is comfortable, blade is high hollow ground on a 10 inch wheel, which presented some challenges, which I enjoyed. Tapered tang, and will get a rounded spine and thumb serrations. Stock is .160 CPM 4V that I have had on hand from Crucible for some years, just waiting for the right project. OAL is 9 inches.

What do you all think?

I’m really digging that profile. Nice job!

Because two is one and one is none...another 4.5" drop point hunter in CPM 4V. Found another bar in my steel stash from AKS that I bought YEARS ago, now seemed like a good time to make something from it.

still doing pre-HT prep on the top one.

Just ordered some more 4V...stuff is more expensive than S90V! I like working with it so far though.

That new pattern turned out really nice!

You might want to try that nikiri in your hand before going farther. I think the bird's head tang will not allow finger clearance to the cutting board.
You could keep the handle as-is, but change the angle of the edge and make it more like a honsuki or gyuto, which will raise the handle angle. Just re-grind the edge from about half of the height at the tip to the heel.
