What's going on with the Mora 2/0 Classic supply?

I was thinking something similar maybe. These do have the notch that could be used to retain the blade; I'm not sure if they are just included to locate the pieces while machining, or if there are models that use them to retain the blades, but it'd work for that. The 2/0 is a little different ffrom other Moras because it's full tang, but I think from the pictures on the package that it's the same as the others other than that, i.e. the semi-circular notch. Probably the tang would have just been too small if they had tried to make it a half tang.
I was thinking of something like the way the 2/0 is built, which is basically a thicker hole drilled nearer the blade, and a smaller hole sized to fit the tang snugly at the base; the widening part of the tang wedges into the larger hole to make it firm, maybe I could carve it out a little to make sure it fits well, and then use a pin of some sort through the handle and the notch to retain it. Or I could probably make a retaining clip, if I got the right piece of metal. The hardest part would be trying to bend it into a circle. I'd need some kind of...mandrel, I guess. And some way of holding it firmly and directing the force. It may not be possible with my limited tools. I do have some brass rods though.

At first glance, i thought the retaining clip was a roll pin, which gives me an idea. Take a roll pin of an appropriate size and pry it open or grind along the split to allow it to fit over the tang. Probably not too easy, but at least perhaps doable with limited tools. Also, try Ragweed Forge for ferrules and other accessory parts, like maybe the clip.

Then I clamped the blade tang into it and drilled a 1/8 in hole through that half, in that tang notch. Then I clamped the second handle half to the first and drilled the hole through it also. Next I glued everything together, with the blade tang in place and a piece of brass rod through the hole to keep everything lined up;
Smart use of the notch. I guess I've thought the notch was to help a cast plastic handle stay in place.
That cut-out central fillet is a great idea, too. I always inlet the tang into the slab.

Good idea, I like it. Both of them! :thumbsup:

I’ve read that the red paint they used to put on the handles was a byproduct from copper mining that stopped decades ago. Maybe they ran out of it and had to abandon the paint.

The Classic sheath was often criticized for not fitting a regular belt, so it looks like they went old school to try and fix that. I have a couple old Frosts No.2’s that came with reddish brown stain rolled on to the handles. I sanded one down to fit better and remove some damage, but I’ll let the other alone for nostalgia. I also have a 2/0 kicking around somewhere. Maybe I’ll try trading it for a 1/0 - it’s always been too small for me anyhow.
