What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Mom and I sometimes have a hard time relating to each other. I missed opportunities to do better today. That's all I really want to say here about it.
Happens with me and my mom too, but I know I under appreciate her. We live 800 miles apart, and I thought about calling her today but didn't. Sorry Ma 😞

Your not alone, mom lives with my sister and takes care of her kids. Doesn't really have time for anything else. We live 150 miles apart and I can't recall her making the trip in the last 12 years. Used to talk (not often enough) but anymore she just passes the phone off. I would try and come up with something motivational but really it's just hard to make family work most of the time.

As difficult as relationships can be, when your mom is no longer around it is a void. I would trade much to be able to have another 5 minute call with mine. We take things for granted until they are gone.

Sometimes we just have to accept that we don’t see eye to eye on everything. We and our parents (and kids, for that matter) all grew up in different times with different influences. We learn, and hopefully get wiser, as we grow older, but we’re still all different. You’ll always be you, and she’ll always be her. Try not to dwell on those ‘missed opportunities’; enjoy the things you have in common, and relish the time you get to spend together. We only get one mom.

Mom and I have had our ups and downs. I talked to her today briefly, but she's still visit her mom, so she didn't have a lot of time to talk.

In other news, I posted the sale.

Some of you have shop credit, which I will take into account.

Okay so I have been in semi-hibernation for a few reasons, all related to the season. We're expecting a pretty cold day tomorrow, so I am pretty sure I will be hibernating then as well. But today I eliminated one of the reasons by receiving a half bush cord to the shop, replenishing my nearly depleted fuel store.

Followed by half an hour of hand bombing (with a little help from a friend)

Leading to a day of consuming many 36 grit grinding belts.

And for the ride home, since the temperature took a sudden nose dive, wrapped up in my custom scarf hand made for me by none other than our very own Wild Willie Wild Willie .

Thanks guys.

I was "fortunate" to have gotten divorced and been without permanent address during the time my father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung and stomach cancer. I had bought a house that was in bad shape and basically condemned as unlivable. For the next 2 years, I lived with them, helped take care of Dad through Hospice and his final days while working and rebuilding the home to be liveable. During that time, I met my now wife and she was able to immigrate here and get to know my father for 7 months before he passed. Now I take care of Mom's house and we go to have dinner with her every Sunday. I feel lucky to have been able to give back some of the care they gave me in my life.

In knife related content, that Waki looks awesome!

Thank you very much. It will have a Suretouch handle with natural canvas Micarta liners per the request of the customer who has claimed it.

You guys know I don't mind the cold, but I have my limits:

And yet for some reason my phone service did not send its usual text, to remind me that my due date is coming up, and I just noticed a text from them saying "Your plan did not renew because there is not enough money in your account".... So I am about to go for a run to Circle K to grab a Public Mobile voucher in this weather anyway. Fun.
