What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

He's seen his knife now, so I can share it here. Bittyrang with creative license. He asked me to make a sheath with dark brown raptor skin Holstex, but a colorful handle. So I thought of how to make them work together, and I came up with the idea to use the same material as the sheath for the liners and spacers, and used up the rest of my tie die micarta that a customer sent me a year or so ago for his knife, as well as some red Micarta and a mosaic pin up front. This one was super fun to make.

David:
Your comment about handle shaping is something I have to say something about. So many knives have handles that are blocky and uncomfortable. I realize that people have different likes/dislikes in shape and ergonomics, but it amazes me how terrible some of the knife handles are. I really appreciate a thought-out grip and know that whatever knife you are working on will have a handle that is comfortable and usable.

Thanks mister! Yes that part is very important to me. It's impossible to say any one part is more important than the others, but if the handle is uncomfortable or unwieldy it's doesn't matter how good the steel, heat treatment, geometry or sheath are because it just won't get used or carried.
