What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Guys I'm not going to make it to the post office before Steve leaves with the last of this week's outgoing mail. I'm on hold with HP tech support because my printer seems to have died, and I can't print packing slips and address labels.

HP printers ... don't ask me what my professional opinion is.

He told me it would be $20 to troubleshoot the issue, whether we get it fixed or not. At least he told me up front. He said if it is a software issue, troubleshooting might get the issue resolved, but if it's hardware, then troubleshooting would be pointless. I told him that after I unplugged the printer from the power outlet and plugged it back in to another one that is verified as working, the power didn't come back on when I pressed the power button, which indicates to me a hardware issue. He agreed, and I thanked him for his time and declined troubleshooting.

Oh before that when he was explaining the options, option 1 was the troubleshooting, and option 2 was to get a new printer with no up front cost on a "plan" including "free" tech support for a certain cost per month, and eventual printer upgrade in two years. I told him "sounds like HP has a business model set up where they no longer have incentive to create a product that works indefinitely".

Huh, my HP Photosmart printer decided to lay down and die last week after less than 5 years of light service. Full ink cartridges, but it barely prints half of the text on a page and what it does print is faint and transparent. I guess it's a good thing I'm not the only one?

What am I supposed to cut with while I wait for my new knife? One of my other dozens (*cough* hundreds) of knives? Apology not accepted.
