What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Lorien wasn’t kidding. I’m on my first piece of rhynowet 220 grit sandpaper to parallelize the grind on the crowned spine and I can already feel it cutting like crazy and see the results faster than the other two brands used before. I’m extremely pleased.

There is one thing first though. I use these to start the parallel grind on the spines.

They are 120 grit ceramic belts that no longer clean up the 36 grit bevels adequately for bevel grinding. This is the start of their afterlife.

And then 220 grit sandpaper. Which used to be much more tedious!

I chose the wrong angle when the heel was up in the vise and all it took was a moment of inattention. No I did not cuss. 👍

From left to right, what remains of a single sheet each of 220, 400, 600, and 800 grit sandpaper after sanding the three handles pictured below them. Zebrawood and black palm Samurai Pierres and a black palm Arcolinea. Ready for final satin finishing, makers marks and sheaths (that’s in reverse order actually lol). Monday.

That or I’m distracted and not seeing all my notifications

In either case, I had a good day in service of a friend who will be eager to receive these to give in turn as gifts to his friends.

Whisperstealth Whisperstealth thank you friend. People are liking all the posts except the actual knife ones tonight 🤣
You work is just beautiful! 🗡😍 You have a talent most, (including myself), do not!

I first signed up for this forum a couple years back, but only really started to see what it was all about the last 10 days or so. So many Awesome Craftsmen and Craftwomen, so many Incredible works of Art. I find myself getting lost in here, but in a really good way!

Have a well deserved great rest of your night!
