You're really, really bored, aren't you?
Nope. Working hard to organize the shop all day. Seems like once a year I do a major shop overhaul. With the arrival of some new resin shelves last night, that overhaul for 2026 was today. And it’s mostly done. The rest can be done bit by bit (no pun intended) while working on knives.
Speaking of, now I have to put makers marks on 21 Lucky Dog Knives.
After that I have another 59 to make for said Conveniently Coincidental Canine Co. The shop organize today will allow me to make multiple knives at one with less need to move things around constantly and when I do need to move them, I can place them more conveniently.
To that end, I am stating my goal to make 20 knives per week for April in the hope of both setting an efficiency record, and completing the remaining Lucky Dogs by May, which was the estimated time frame I gave Andrew last year when we embarked on this ambitious 120+ knife project.
I retired all my wood storage boxes for bins. Sorting wood for handles was inefficient due to the co start need to clean off dust that was getting though gaps between the box flaps, not to mention I had them piled on top of each other which meant nonstop juggling of twenty and thirty pound dusty boxes.
Now they are where they should be, in bins like the rest of my wood and handle material. No more going to the side of the shop for one type of wood, and the back for another. It’s all there.
Table saw was on the ground beneath the folding table. Now that the dusty boxes of wood are off the table, the saw is there. That’s where it will be used instead of on the floor where I was using it before.
The small wood stand there next to it was beside the cabinet before, not really doing much of use. Now it is a dedicated cross draft fan table. My box fans should arrive later this week. They will be getting merv11 filters on the intake. The other fan will be a door fan, pointing out.
The combination of these two fans will create the following benefits:
Unstable air current near the door preventing easy access for mosquitoes if they decide to present in similar numbers to spring/summer 2022/23. This will make entering through the door much more difficult.
Those that do get in will find a moving air current inside on account of the door fan blowing out, and the table fan blowing perpendicular to it, toward the back corner of the shop.
Most of the mosquitoes should find themselves stuck on the filters.
Additionally, fine airborne dust will be largely collected in the filters as well, which will be cleaned and/or changed as needed.
There’s more to the shop overhaul but I’ve been typing long enough.
Now let me get back to work hosers.
