A little off topic, but you were talking about old/new computer issues.
I recently had to replace my desktop as well.
(maybe you already know this)
I found out that you can remove the old hard drive in laptops and desktops, and with just a specific cable (depends on what pin connections are on the hard drive) ((or you can get a plastic case shell with the cable/connectors built in)) and just reuse it as an external hard drive.
I am planning on doing this with my last two hard drives from my last two desktops.
There are videos of this on youtube showing how easy it (should) be.
(provided there is nothing wrong with the hard drives themselves)
