What's in your pockets? - Buck Edition!

look again, Sir. safety is on.......condition 1 cocked and locked.

The model 1911 is made to be carried cocked with the safety on....

Thanks jb and sass. I noticed the safety was on in jb's first post, but didn't know the 1911 is carried that way. My father has a 1911, but no one carries it. I'm more of a revolver guy. :)

Resurrecting this thread, sorry not sorry - carrying my Buck 841 today as a money clip, and decided to a pocket dump of all my pockets right here and now, to see what I've got.

Left back pocket - Wallet
Left front pocket - Spartan Pallas in sheath with iPhone 14 Pro Max (in hand)
Left belt clip - Keys (car key, bottle opener, Spyderco Manbug, Rovivon flashlight, Pepper spray, mailbox key, frosty discount
Right front pocket - S&W 360PD w/laser in DeSantis nemesis (my P365 sits in a Remora)
Right front inner hidden zipper pocket - Buck 841, cash, pen and comb (long deep pocket)
Right leg pocket - AirPods Pro, Mask, Hand sanitizer, Streamlight, lighter, SAK Warhawk
Right back pocket - Benchmade Shootout, coins (too lazy to remove), reloads on speed strips

Lost my lighter and got Dessert Warrior lighters for me and my son's Xmas, so not unboxed yet. Don't smoke, but sometimes need fire. Watches not included in pic. Still planning to incorporate my new prybar in place of cap lifter since SAK has one.

I missed this thread when it came out but truly hate to carry a lot in my pockets. So all I have is my keys and a smaller Folder most often a 112. I can't stand to sit on my wallet so I keep it in the car until I might need it. A flashlight IS nice to have close by.

Yeah. If I don't have a knife in my left front pocket, which I usually don't unless I'm trying out something new, I can fit my wallet and iPhone in the left front pocket. I mostly put my wallet in left front when I'm driving on long trips and don't want to sit on it for 8-10 hours.

Same here, if I get coins and have to put them in my pocket, they go into a jar or the console ASAP. Don't sit on my wallet either, but make extra trips to retrieve it from the truck to pay for items in the store.
If I don't carry the 110 Slim Pro, then it's usually the Buck/AG 308, the 308 does bug me but I carry it anyway....

Ditto. If I have anything in my back pocket, it's a 110 and I'm doing yardwork. Anytime else, everything is in my front pockets, and I carry as little as possible. This time of year, though, I'll add Burt's Bees and maybe a used tissue. Only thing missing from today's pocket dump is my phone that was taking the photo.

I think my minimal carry is a response to my younger years. My pockets used to be stuffed with burp cloths, snacks, hair barrettes, pretty stones that my kids would find on walks, band-aides, and anything else I might *possibly* need for a toddler emergency. If it was jacket weather, I could load up even more. We had some adventures, but I don't miss the crowded pockets.

I think women have the best idea...a purse. Just sitting here with my coffee I can't remember seeing any girl I have met in my entire life regularly carry anything in there pockets. But ALL have carried/used a wide variety of purses. KathyJo had at least 30 different ones. And it might be over 50..

A purse would definitely work. In the days of overstuffed pockets, I also carried a backpack/diaper bag everywhere. You can get a lot of stuff in a backpack, including lunch and about eleventy-five children's books.

I bet some of those purses carry memories.

Also sitting here with my coffee, I can't remember girls having pockets worth beans. My wife doesn't own a pair of pants with front pockets larger than the smallest watch pocket on my jeans. Same for my daughters. True story: my teenager wears loose jeans and can't fit her SAK Tinker in her front pocket. Back pocket carry only. It's a small sample size, but I'm seeing a trend.

My young son, on the other hand, could probably stuff Cat the Cat into his pocket. Little boys' pockets are huge and full of nonsense when it's time for laundry.

305 for scale:

Same today, minus the Spartan. I switched the Buck 841 out yesterday for a new Spyderco Siren S90V/Carbon Fiber, and decided to go right back to the Buck 841 again today. The Siren scales are a bit rough in the hand and it doesn't slip into the pocket as easily (but it's also intended to be used wet). I'm not needing to carry a heavier knife with it, as I did the other day, since the Buck 841 and Shootout will get the job done with MUCH LESS weight and space (Shootout is CF reinforced polymer).

I carried a Benchmade Mini Griptilian every day for the past 10 years (and added the Shootout to it this year as secondary), but this Buck is quickly replacing many of my front pocket knives. I love how it feels in my hand with the curving grooves, being so smooth and sleek but contoured to stay put. I love it's great fidgety and snappy S45VN flipper blade with a classic Buck silhouette. If they made this same knife with a button lock I'd be even happier.

However, I do think it would be even better if it had Ti liners, for less side to side flex if I'm torquing on the blade. The scales are at least as stiff as some other knives with G-10, and stiffer than some polymer scales I've used. But the knife blade can definitely bend or flex the frame at it's pivot if I am levering up on something. It's not even close to functioning as a light use prybar like my Buck 112, Hinderer XM-18, Chris Reeve knives, or Spartans. But just like the 112 it's also a fraction of the price, and I now carry a 3.5" Bruzek prybar for times when I need one.
