Whats it worth?

It was at the sands hotel which is history now. I had never heard of Busse but
the demo of cutting an ammo can apart and the way it felt in my hand I had to
have it.

Do you think an under the table deal with one of the many people shooting him an email is his best bet?
an Ebay auction would be a true measure of the value of the item....

Many times people that would pay $800 -$1000 for a knife don't check ebay. I almost never do.

Look at Progunner's Proto. It didn't go over 900 on ebay and he sold it here for $1200 or so.

People like Progunner, Cobalt, Randucci, Mulder etc. will tell him what it is worth and then someone like ME will pay it. He won't pay ebay fees or paypal fees nor have to worry about the quality of the buyer.

Guys I'm really not trying to be a profiteer( is that a word ) I'm really just trying to
get an idea of the value of the knife. Like I said it has great sentimental value but
real world value is another thing altogether. Yes, I would like to see someone here
get it that would love it, cherrish it, and keep it. Not just buy it to turn it around
when they think they can make the most off of it.

Tommoro pics will be posted then you can see and tell me what you think.

Thanks, Wyatt

I am sure he has MANY emails by now. And YES I did email him.....do I think I stand a chance at it...NO, it is well outside my budget. But at least he knows he doesn't have to go through the hassle of ePray and still make more than he was looking for here.

Selling something you have had for 15 years for what it is worth is not profiteering!!

That is still a guess of it's worth.
A highly educated guess...but still a guess!

I don't think that Ebay is a broad enough market. If it was that proto would have sold rather than stalling at under 900. Also the below market deals you can get there from time to time would not happen.

Who is going to realize more from his knife, that poor guy who sold his SHBA a few days ago for $375 on ebay or this person? If the SHBA owner had asked here first, many would have given him well over $500.

Also I do think that a knife like a SHSH1 should end up in the hands of a collector in this community and move around within this community so more people that are really into Busse knives can enjoy it.

Wow guys I didn't mean to open a can of worms. I know that I wouldn't put it on
ebay. The people on this forum would appreciate it more, and I do, if I decide to
sell want someone that would appreciate it for what it is. Like I said I'll get pics
as good as I can and have them posted then an honest estimated value can be
assesed. Thanks for your replies.

Wyatt

There aren't really any differences in the SH1s, they are all pretty much the same. Some have better/deeper etchings and maybe the blasted finish can vary some, but that is all I have seen. There are very few variants I've heard. As far as a value goes, it will be hard to tell if the new ASH1 will effect the original ones, I don't see them going up much more, I would say with the patch and dog tag $900 - $1000, but we all know, it is only worth what someone will pay.

Does it look like the bottom knife?

Yes it does look like the bottom knife w/bird beak but it could just be your pic,
but the handle material is more color defined like the top one.

I had one like that once, got in a crunch several years ago and sold it.

In all my years of looking for a patch, I could never find one.

I would love to find another SH 1 with a patch, I wouldn't let it go, I'd use it.

If you let this one go feel free to contact me, I'll pay what ever these guy say is a fair price for it, no games.

Thanks,
Chuck

I have also noted the price difference between here and Ebay, but some times the prices on Ebay are too high. Guess it just depends on who is selling.

I had someone offer me 1,600 for one of my knives on ebay if I would let him "buy it now". I told him to put his bid in, and maybe he would get it for less - I wanted to see what the open market would bear. it ended up selling for around 1,300 - about what I bought it for. I could have used that 300$ (badly), but was unwilling to put a 300$ mark up on my blade right after having bought it. just never feels right for me when I try it.

had I put it up here for 1,600, it probably would have sold. ebay is both a realistic description of what the market will bear as a "highest price I'm willing to pay if I can get away with it" scenario market, as well as the "I'll pay anything" extremes of the market. you have to take the whole into perspective before assuming what your peice will sell for, and hope as a seller that you get the random 2 bidders who are of the "pay anything" perspective.

if no one buys it, it will go up for sale for less, or the guy will have to keep paying ebay's insertion fee's.

I would assume that that knife would go for at least 750$. but, on the low side, it may only go for 650, on the high side you may get a crazy number like 1,700. markups that high have happened before (like that one sfno that went for 3x+ the original sales price).

$750 would be a steal. Listen, the ASH1's are great and they will be plentiful, but for the true collector, they are NOT an original SH1. I paid $800 for mine a couple of years back and was glad to have it. I wouldn't expect a guy to sell an original SH1 for the current prices the ASH1 are fetching ($600-$750). Ebay is a crap shoot, your best bet for top dollar is to decide what you want for it and place it on the exchange for that price. If I were Wyatt and I had a lightly used SH1 with original sheath, dog tag and the ever elusive Busse patch (the real treasure in my book) I wouldn't let it out of my sight. But we all know circumstances often times dictate we seperate ourselves from our physical treasurers, in that instance this particular lot of Wauseon goodies would definitely demand at least $1000. I would wager you could get at least that for just the knife, sheath and dog tag. If the patch were put up for auction, I think you'd freak at how high a piece of stitched fabric would go.

As for the crazy SFNO, I can't recall who got that one or if they post here, but at the time I had to believe it was a new guy who got bit by the bug really badly and he fell into the "I'll pay anything to get what I want" set. Personally, when I sell something on ebay, that is exactly the person I am hoping to get. :D

exactly. but these guys suggesting that making money on a blade is some how unscrupulous is ridiculous!!! you make a little or a lot here and there and it allows you to keep stepping up higher on the collectors ladder. this garbage of "it doesnt feel right to make money on a busse" is absurd!!!!!! Jerry is making money and im sure he hopes that what comes around goes around!
