What's missing from my collection? (another what should I get...)

I'm looking for another but don't know what to get. Customs and very high-end productions are out for budget reasons. Like the looks of the Emerson Persian, but too expensive. Al Mar Shrike looks kind of interesting but I've never seen one in person. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's what I have accumulated so far and their respective uses:

Benchmade Mini-grip - Regular EDC

Camillus EDC - EDC when heavier cutting tasks are anticipated

William Henry Spearpoint - Big gentlemen's folder

Benchmade 773 - Small gentlemen's folder

Microtech Mini-Socom - defense knife

Kershaw Chive - novelty knife - fun to flick

CRKT M16 zytel - beat-up knife (the one I tried to sharpen with a dremel). Use it for prying or other such tasks so I don't ruin one of my other knives.

Leatherman Pulse

You could put 1/4 double edge tips on a few of them...

But don't expect their value to double. :D

OK

-****Al Mar Sere 2000**** A MUST BUY
-BM 921 Switchback
-BM 806D2 AFCK
-BM 710
-Delta Z Osprey

There are pleanty more, I left Microtech out of this b/c of your price cap. I would say that a few of the above are must haves. However, I am afraid you may not make it threw the night if you don't go order a Al Mar Sere 2000 RIGHT NOW

What makes the SERE 2000 a must buy? This forum has made me afraid of liner locks and it's kind of heavy at 6oz, but my interest is piqued ...

Zytif, next time I get an itchy Dremel finger, maybe I'll just try that on the M16 for sh*ts and giggles.

The Al Mar Sere 2000 is one of the smoothest, strongest folders on the market. It’s the true definition of Work Horse. I wouldn't worry about its liner lock failing one bit

Im gonna make an honest suggestion to you... no BS (with all the sh!t that's going around here) If you can't afford a sebenza, sell some of the knives you mentioned, add $100 and buy a small sebenza. Thats what I did for my first sebenza, it was a big leap for me, and I will never regret it.

I think the benchmade afck is a must. I like the liner lock afck the best. Hands down my favorite production folder i have ever owned. Tried the benchmade axis and wasn't really impressed. Go with the liner lock, ya can't get hurt.

How do you feel about larger folders? You can pick up a Cuda MAXX framelock, titanium scaled, and D2 steeled knife for around $100 to $125 on the forums. For $150 to $160 brand new. You can also go big with a Buck/Strider spearpoint, large-4.0" blade, small-3.0" blade.

The Shrike you mention is a nice production piece. I tend to agree with the SERE 2000. It is custom quality fit and finish for around $125.00. The liner locks are not bad knives as long as it is built correctly. The SERE's I've had were all built correctly.

If I could only get one from the group I mentioned.....Cuda MAXX, NO DOUBT!!!  :D :)

Here's some "Pirtle Classic Picks"...

Of course there are some more but my scanner is not big enough ;)

A couple are what I consider in the running to be classics but get an honorable mention... Denoted by ***

Top to Bottom
Cold Steel Ti Lite ***
MOD CQD MKII
Benchmade TSEK Axis
Al Mar Shrike ***
Al Mar SERE 2000 Black Blade
Benchmade AFCK D2/Axis

Left & Vertical
GT Mini Auto (pre production no less ;))

I don't know if Al Mar made more than 200 Shrike's so they may be alittle harder to come by now, I had heard they were stopping at 200 but that may not be true. Does anyone own a non-numbered one?

Classics I would also add would be the following:

Any Cold Steel Voyager
Spyderco Chinook and Police
SAK Electrician
Microtech LCC
Benchmade 710 & 705

Now go have fun emptying your bank account like the rest of us ;) :D :p

You've got it pretty well covered so maybe a fixed blade like a Strider WP or MFS which are in the $150 range.

I agree,Looks like you pretty well have folders covered, I'd get a Timberline mini pitbull or an Outdoor Edge wedge/wedgeII. Real Cheap but great little fixed blades. If it turns out you like FB's, then get something expensive, If you dont like these, at least your only out about$15 or $28, depending on which one you get.

If money's an issue I can think of a few blades that wont break the bank. The Opinel is a super slicer that will only set you back about ten bucks. They're light weight, sheeple friendly, and take a razor edge. It's hard to go wrong with a good SAK, maybe something like the Tinker. It's small enough that it might find its way into your pocket if the Pulse is a little heavy (say while wearing slacks) while still having the essentials. Maybe a Micra/Cross-Cut or Jester for the kaychain. A Queen stockman in D2. A Mora or Puuko. An HI khukuri can be had for less than $100. A Balisong if you live in a state where you can carry them. A kerambit from Kris Cutlery? Okay, I ran out of ideas. Happy hunting.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm thinking either the Sere 2000 or a fixed blade. Does anyone have an opinion of the Camillus CQB or mini-CQB? Is a Strider really worth 2 to 3 times the price of the Camillus?

Well, i am a fan of the higher-end stuff, so i would second the idea of spending a little more and getting a higher quality knife, either a Sebenza as was mentioned, or a Strider, which IS a well made knife to answer your question. However, i think that on a budget, a large Kershaw BOA assisted opening knife is a good value, as is a CUDA with the thumb disc. Also, a GREAT bargain is the Microtech LCC which can now be had for under $200, its a LOT of knife for the money. The carbon fiber Spyderco Police is also a really nice (big) knife for around $120.

To better answer your question about Striders, i cant comment on the Cammilus knives you mentioned, having not seen them yet, but i will say that Striders are priced just about where they should be, theyre a semi-custom, well made, very sturdy knife using good materials with a great warantee.

Kershaw Double Cross...sheeple friendly double bladed liner lock .
It's the polite box opener..... :D ;)

Spyderco Delica & Police models.

Camillus/Becker BK-7 and/or BK-9.

Ontario/Bagwell Hell's Belle.

Victorinox Deluxe Tinker.
