What's missing from your traditional collection?

I was rooting through my display case and safe last night pulling out my GEC 15's for a group shot. I was thinking earlier in the day that I don't have a Douk Douk after reading lwrhea's very neat thread. As I dug through my various Barlows, teardrop jacks, harness jacks, pen knives, SAKs, gunstocks, etc, it hit me.

I don't own a traditional stockman!

I could have sworn I did, I even remembered what it looked like, it was a Case with amber bone. I mentioned it to Katie that I thought I had misplaced a knife, and she said, "Didn't you give that one away on Bladeforums a while back?" :o It's a good thing I married that woman, since she remembers EVERYTHING for me!

As far as I can tell, I gave it away with intentions of replacing it with a GEC made model, and I guess I just never got around to it before I moved on to something else. Sheesh! What kind of slipjoint collector doesn't have a stockman?!?

So now I have a reason to start hunting for another knife (as well as hunting down a Douk Douk)! :D So tell me, traditional knife knuts, have you ever had an experience like this, or is there a particular pattern of knife that you're lacking and hunting for? Inquiring minds want to know!

What is lacking in my collection is enough remaining years of life to carry the ones I already have long enough to get some feel for them, and lack of a lifestyle that needs me to carry one at all.

In other words - I already have more than I will ever need.

I'm missing a harness jack, but aside from that I think I'm more or less covered :)

True, true. I typically carry a harness jack or a TC Barlow every day, but I try to rotate through them. A lot of my collection is centered around having just a couple examples of different patterns. I have two English jacks, for instance, that I'd never try to cram in my pocket. I still collect, though, so there is a place for them.

I know I'll never use the bulk of my collection, but if I were to expire tomorrow, my wife has standing instructions to wait until my daughter is old enough to choose what she wants to keep, then auction off the rest.

- GEC Another Bullnose, #66, and #85 with clip points. I'm just waiting for the right time, and I'm not sure what I'm looking for with scales but it'll hit me.
- A few more Buck's.

I'm missing a vintage PUMA PRINCE lockback...

Stole this picture from the net.

Something in mammoth ivory and something in camel bone. But I just dropped $3000 on a Macbook Pro and I probably won't be scratching either of those itches for a while.

This would be a long list, but the one that stands out most is a GEC #15. For whatever reason I have never gotten one of these. And yet they are some of my favorite to see in pictures.

A TC Barlow, that's the only one that's been haunting me lately, I really don't have a big knife collection compared to most, maybe 10 case knives and a handful of bucks, but that Charlow is definitely one I'd love to get, a sheepsfoot charlow would most likely boot most other knives out of my pocket for good

I get your drift. This is not so much of a "wish list" thread as it is a "why don't I own that?" thread. ;)

I had the same epiphany not long ago regarding my lack of a Stockman. Such a basic traditional slipjoint and I didn't have one!!

Now I own three.

There are lots of knives I'd still like to own but I can't say there are any such huge glaring gaps in my collection now. Well, except for maybe...

I want a T/C Barlow Stag Handle single blade Spear Point so bad I can taste it ~~~ but as the saying goes ""wish in one
hand and xxxt in the other and see which happens first.!"" T/C's have gone out of site.***

Since I was a young child, I've had an affinity for guns and knives. Over the years I picked up a firearm here and a knife there, (mostly fixed blades) but one day about 15+ years ago I turned around and discovered I had become an accumulator. My thrust at the time was one of everything. One of each pattern. One of each brand (with no clue how many there are out there).

So now I have a fairly decent sampling but nowhere near all the patterns because at some point I unconsciously focused on Doctor knives, Kershaw Leeks, Scallions & D.W.O. 3000s, the Puma Big Five Series and finally Camillus 72s and their clones. I became a collector. During that time, the garden got weeded and those I didn't really care for went on down the road. Sodbuster, Russlock, Opinel and a few others.

Some I don't have and don't have any desire for such as the Buffalo, Cheetah, Butterbean, Elephant Toenail (et al). I would like to have a Maize knife (corn knife), a Hobo, a Saddle Horn and a Tuxedo. Maybe someday. So many knives, so little $$$$$.

My Soup Bone Barlow Clip is at the GEC repair shop. I'm hoping they are able to change out the recurved blade I have on there instead of sharpening it and sending it back. Spoke to Bill and he mentioned they have to see if they have any spare clip blades laying around. I'm crossing my fingers.

While I don't conside myself to be a collector, my wish list includes: GEC Talon, TC Barlow Sheepfoot long pull, Northwoods IRJ, Northwoods Hawthorne Wharncliffe, and Northwoods Freemont Jack. All single blades, I know. But at this stage these hold the most interest to me. If the CSC Half Moon Trapper had a half stop, it would be at the top of the list.

This.
I don't have a collection of knives anyway. Not more than a collection of sweaters or underwear.
I know I will probably buy some more along the way, but only to give away the ones I currently have. This does not apply to underwear though

:D Shucks, now no one here will be receiving a Resolza wrapped in a pair of Hanes?!?

OFF TOPIC RESPONSE: I find this a very effective way to insure that knives I put in airline checked baggage actually arrive on the other end. So far it's worked 100%. Pair of skivvies (clean works too;), knives, zip lock bag.

Now to the original post. Every year Case comes out with a new Case/Bose annual collaboration I've got another knife I need...
