What's missing from your traditional collection?

True, true. I typically carry a harness jack or a TC Barlow every day, but I try to rotate through them. A lot of my collection is centered around having just a couple examples of different patterns. I have two English jacks, for instance, that I'd never try to cram in my pocket. I still collect, though, so there is a place for them.

I know I'll never use the bulk of my collection, but if I were to expire tomorrow, my wife has standing instructions to wait until my daughter is old enough to choose what she wants to keep, then auction off the rest.

I'm in a period of trying to figure out what I'm doing, knife-wise. I love them and want them, but I feel silly buying things I don't need when I'd rather have the money in the bank.

In the spirit of the thread, if I were to allow my wants to dictate my actions, there are several opportunities that I have allowed to pass by, even though it was something I wanted. Here are some of the things I am missing that I have a want for:

- A Case Sod Buster with jigged bone handles. My only example of the pattern is a Queen Country Cousin in D2 green linen Micarta.
- GEC stockman pattern, ideally the 66 Calf Roper. The only 3-blade knife I have from GEC is the Maverick, which is a great knife but not quite a true stockman.
- An Opinel.

Trying to avoid the "wish list" approach, but rather the "what major thing is missing." The lottery-winner wish list is much longer.

I'm missing a 2008 traditional Bladeforums knife...................Oops, not anymore.............just snagged it on the exchange!

I've got most every pattern but my dilema is that I thin out my collection/accumulation and then start buying again. In the last year for instance, I've sold off to dealers or via commission in a local sporting goods store well over fifty GEC knives but since that sell off, I've bought other GEC knives - a few of the same patterns I sold off. The same thing with older Case knives I've had. So, what's missing in my collection is a level headed, stay the course, collector.

While I don't conside myself to be a collector, my wish list includes: GEC Talon, TC Barlow Sheepfoot long pull, Northwoods IRJ, Northwoods Hawthorne Wharncliffe, and Northwoods Freemont Jack. All single blades, I know. But at this stage these hold the most interest to me. If the CSC Half Moon Trapper had a half stop, it would be at the top of the list.

You're in deep denile my friend ;) welcome to the club.

In other words - I already have more than I will ever need.

Sacrilege sir, those words are never used by collectors for fear our wives may get wind of such utterance. Then we may have to agree with them that we don't "need" another one.
I for one see that the only thing missing from my collection, is the one in the mail.
My "to buy" list grows faster than my bought list does.

A Cub Scout pocket knife from the early 70s or late 60s, I'm sure it was ccarbon steel. I lost one of these as a kid and would love to find another like it.

I am missing many, but the one I really need is a single blade sheepfoot, charlow!!! er ah a sawcut bone just like the oldies.

I'm not much of a collector, don't feel the need to have a bunch of knives really. I actually prefer to carry the same knife almost all the time and really sort of bond with that one. Almost all my knives right now are single blades though and I really want to add a multi-blade custom from Ken Erickson to the mix and make that my main carry.

Other than that, I'd really like to have a T. Bose knife someday, not sure that one is very likely though.

Until today I had never owned an Opinel, got a #8 stainless in today as part of a gift box type of thing so that is fun, will make a nice fruit/cheese knife.

I have, or have had, pretty much every kind of traditional that I've been interested in. The last thing for me to try was an alox SAK, and I now have an Electrician and a Cadet. Stockmen/cattle knives are my most numerous type, by a wide margin.

I can't seem to shake the Tidioute Eureka Jack from nagging me. Any time I see one online I seem to spend the next 30 minutes thinking about what I've spent money on that I could have put in the piggy bank towards it.

A Case Loom Fixer and Whaler as well, in order to make something of a sheepsfoot set with my 11031.

Well, right now, I am missing a Case peanut, and/or a Case mini-trapper. I'm lucky enough to have owned and carried a number of other patterns. I usually carry one for about a year or so, then move on. But sometimes I come back and take one out to carry for a while. I'm not a collector, yet, but as someone else said, an accumulator. I think a collector would be fussy about which steels, or what color bone, or jigging, or such, but I'm not. I try to buy from brick and mortar stores, rather than the internet. Just like to to keep the locals in business, but that means I often don't get the handle color or steel that I might prefer. Right now, if I found the peanut or mini trapper with either CV steel or yellow handles, or both, well I've never had one, so.....

Missing lots... But the short list of wants is Buck110, Opi, small case fixed blade, any Northfield Northfield.

I'm missing a few that I let go early in my collection.
Samuel Barlow(neepsend) Barlow knife with a razor blade and integral bolster/liner. I miss this knife the most.
A couple of Al Mars, Cripple Creek Blood Brother Barlows, a Rolox and a mint Shrade Lobster in pearl. And a nice Damascus Persian blade boot knife that had a wallet sheath.

So tell me, traditional knife knuts, have you ever had an experience like this, or is there a particular pattern of knife that you're lacking and hunting for? Inquiring minds want to know!

How nice of you to ask Dan!!!;):)

You could have sent me a PM and I would have told you friend. ;)

I need an old Schrade Farmers Jack, old ISW Primbles, numerous Charlows that I don't already have, Dave's SKUNK knife, Daves' unserialized sucker rod TC Barlow, old Case XX red bones that I don't have, ohh, a one of a kind T. Bose would be really nice, and all of Charlie's Schrade collection would be nice. Other than that, nutin I guess.:D

I will be watching my mailbox next week to see what you picked out for your friend Primble. ;)
