True, true. I typically carry a harness jack or a TC Barlow every day, but I try to rotate through them. A lot of my collection is centered around having just a couple examples of different patterns. I have two English jacks, for instance, that I'd never try to cram in my pocket. I still collect, though, so there is a place for them.
I know I'll never use the bulk of my collection, but if I were to expire tomorrow, my wife has standing instructions to wait until my daughter is old enough to choose what she wants to keep, then auction off the rest.
I'm in a period of trying to figure out what I'm doing, knife-wise. I love them and want them, but I feel silly buying things I don't need when I'd rather have the money in the bank.
In the spirit of the thread, if I were to allow my wants to dictate my actions, there are several opportunities that I have allowed to pass by, even though it was something I wanted. Here are some of the things I am missing that I have a want for:
- A Case Sod Buster with jigged bone handles. My only example of the pattern is a Queen Country Cousin in D2 green linen Micarta.
- GEC stockman pattern, ideally the 66 Calf Roper. The only 3-blade knife I have from GEC is the Maverick, which is a great knife but not quite a true stockman.
- An Opinel.
Trying to avoid the "wish list" approach, but rather the "what major thing is missing." The lottery-winner wish list is much longer.
