What's next for Becker?

I'll see your second one from the left and raise you the 3rd one from the left with a paracord lanyard and Becker skull.. ;)

Doc, I'm your huckleberry !! I'd like to see Becker make an affordable bushcraft style knife, but then again I'd also like to try the Condors.. bushlore, and sapien..so maybe that affordable market is already cornered??

there's affordable and then there is junk. Condor might not be complete junk..but its not Kabar quality.. no way is it close. not the same universe.
There are a lot of Condor fan boys..and I have owned several..but honestly..why would I pay $30 for a machete..when Tramontina can do the same or better for $6?

As far as Becker dream knives..well, the way I see it..is E. Becker dreams it, and it happens..what we want, doesnt much matter.
He of course listens in here, but he is designing these things..for love and money. Why would be let us design them..I wouldnt.
Not sounding off like a jerk..just thinking out loud..and being honest.
I could be wrong..but i dont think I am.

Definitely third from the left. Wouldn't mind the tanto if it came to a finer point, if not the third one. Recurves are just a pain to sharpen.

Though anything different/new/badass will be fantastico.

Moose - I like the marriage comment lol.

I don't think you are wrong, but Ethan does listen to people and their ideas. Reinhardt/Becker Kukri, Ritter/Becker Collab, ESEE/Becker ESKabar, Fisk/Becker Magnum Camp. He has a history of working with people to bring great ideas to life. His knives are his knives, and they all just happen to be among my favorites, not just because of E, but because we see things in the same light most times. I like, simple, austere, workable products, frilly shit is just wasted on me. I want a go car, not a show car. Its nice when you can have both, but for me, simple, austere is beautiful, enter the classic JMB 1911. You can gussy those things up to the point they no longer function properly, but you can take an 'ol slabside, plain as milk, and she'll shoot all day.

This is an opportunity for Becker fans to show off their ideas, and you never know, the Becker Bushmoose may be just around the corner. YMMV

Good post brother.

The folding BK-2 is silly but I really want one. Maybe a folding BK-11 would ride a pocket a bit better. A Becker folder though - heck yeah.

Thanks,
Like I said..I dont want anyone to think I am being a jerk..just sayin what I am sayin is all.
Hell, I am the first to throw out a drawing of a knife I would like..but I alway know in the back of my mind, I will have to make it myself, or have it made..to see it become a reality. I think this is a good thing..if every idea was made right off the bat..there would be some silly stuff out there..my ideas included.
I still think I should work as a designer for Kabar though!:D

I like the blade shape on the drop point Tweener, but I just don't know if I can get on board with those handles. They appear to be a bit anorexic. But hell, they're not even in production let alone in my hand.

cody that's some nice stock there, ffg?

I'd like to see when you have the grind done, I'm going to finish a 4" drop point damascus, file work on spine etc.. maybe someday I'll have the right set up and skills to get going full bore..

take care,

rob

They are suprisingly robust in the hand. The ones I handles, seemed to fit, just right. The right curvature, the right palmswell, and the finger reliefs are perfect to change grips with. For a brute force knife, like the BK2, the handles would be a little small, but for a 4" bushcrafter, its just right. Or at least I think so, we will see whats what, when they come out and we call all take turns discussing them:D

Three of the Protos, I've also seen a CampTweener and a Clip point bowie tweener.

They handle real well.

The third from the left looks sweet. I'm all over that!

I really like Beckers -No choil approach-. I can't stand them. I much prefer the additional blade length. I hate having the blade pushed out away from my hand, and if the blade runs up close to your grip, you don't need a choil. IMHO I like the drop point version the best..

Yes the one on the right is sweet. What else can you tell us about them?
Blade / Handle length . Sheath style anything.
It looks like the handle is a little longer then the blade. I am going to guess 3 3/4"-4" blade and the handle a 1/4" longer.
I would love a 4 1/2" blade / 4" handle. With a small storage pouch on the sheath.

Hey Rob, I'll put a pic up of the beast up when I get the pregrind done. Making is a fun part time gig. Hourly doesn't come close to my "real" job, but it's fun to create and play.. And who knows, maybe we can build it into something larger than part time..

I would like the tweeners to be about a 4" blade and a 4-4.5" handle. I think that is the ticket..

What would I like to see? A 12" chopper, BK-5 profile, 1/4" stock, 5160, convex edge, micarta handle scales. For less than $200. A Searles bowie for the 21st century. Hey, you asked!

Reinhardt Khukuri revival!!
Why am I the only one asking for this?

Because the rest of us already have them:p

Naw, I want to see a kukri cutter come out of the Becker lineup, but Toooj I think hit the nail in one stroke with the Kabar Kuk Machete. Its a friggin' monster and a helluva chopper.

Mr. Hank Reinhardt has passed on (2007) and will always be remembered as a legend in the world of steel. His ability to agree to the knife making is past its time, and Ethan nor Kabar would disrespect his memory and his estate by just simply "making it". With all of Ethan's collab knives, it takes two to tango, and Mr. Reinhardt, will be tangoing no more. They are out there to buy, I just recently got me one, it just kinda found me. Some are not users and some are, you just have to look.

I have a very deep respect for Mr. Reinhardt, and if you are interested in seeing his work and legacy, head out to Museum Replicas Limited, he was a huge part in creating that organization. Some knives, will just never be made again.

I'd say condor is no where near junk, I have limited experience as I just bought their 14" golok but I've used it quite extensively in the first few days I've had it and it is outstanding... I have a few trams and I have to say they do not make a 1/4" machete or I would've bought that for $6, these are slightly greater comparison then apples to apples, both in fit and finish.. Funny thing is Imacasa is Condor and you slap an ESEE name on it and it has a blessed following and all of a sudden people own machetes.. and Jeff will contest to this following and will point blank say the knife world is 99% bs and all you need is a machete.. (i agree whole heartedly btw)

I've had a cheap CS 13 khukuri style machete for years now, its been totally thrashed around it used to be my 'goto' blade it never chipped, rolled or anything (since I convexed it) I paid practically nothing for it, people hate on this particular blade saying the metal's inferior etc, I've always defended my blade, maybe I got a diamond in the rough but this knife is insane for $14.. I mean insane.. coating and all, but people hate it.. maybe a fluke ?? I don't know but it works for me..

I'm tired of the name game and really it basically boils down to what 'works' for you, yeah the hype is kewl, if only for a moment..

take care,

rob

Some of the older Condor's had HT issues, of that I will agree too, but the new stuff is pretty good for the money. Their primary woods designer is a great guy, and is coming up with some pretty good ideas. The new Bush Sapien is a real BA knife, for the size, and the Bushcraft Basics are a good trainer knife for guys that teach classes, and need to outfit newbs with blades that can be dinged, beat and otherwise mistreated, for less than $30 each, helluva deal.

That said, Condors QC needs to get better and the grinders need to start finishing the grinds. I have a new Kamunga and right now it is pulling woodstove duty, and doing a good job of splitting wood. Right now it is splitting an average of 10 pieces down to 1"x1" daily and holding its own. My primary wood right now is some soaked through Red Oak, and I have to split it small to get it dry enough to burn. Its burning, and the Kamunga is splitting.

Things are getting better for Condor, grindwise and QC wise, but they are not where they should be. But, hell, for under $30 show me where you can get a knife that can take that abuse and keeping going. Not that size, not that thickness.

that would be one sweet gig right there.......issues arise though when we talk about where the 5160 comes from, there are many differed opinions on this steel.

this would be on a 'custom' level...

Hey that's what we need, "custom" becker's sourced from ?? (puts on flame suit)

I made a kephart out of an old leaf spring, that was most likely 1060, or 5160. Impossible to tell. Came out really good and takes a wicked sharp edge, but it is a bit of a guessing game..

one of my first experimental char coal forges.

left some scale on the blade and did a zero degree convex.

I did hidden pins on this one.
IMG_3199.jpg

This was one of my first 15-20 blades. Was fun, but reclaiming a leaf spring takes way more work than buying pre annealed precision bar stock. Then you know what you are getting, also..
IMG_3208.jpg

It's .25" thick stock, and quite beastly.

cody1,I really dig your chopper design!!If E did something like that,I'd be all over it!
