What's Next on your Knife Menu?

+1 on that. That super-ugly shield is the only reason I still don't own any Canal Streets. That thing is hideous. I can understand wanting to use the same shield for all of your knives, but if you're going to do that, pick something that looks nice, for crying out loud. How hard is it to design a nice shield? I could knock out 50 better designs than what they're using in an afternoon.

Open offer to Canal Street- if you want a new shield design, I'll design a better one for you for free. :D I have a little bit of experience- 8 years of professional experience as a designer, two Masters degrees in fine arts, and an extensive exhibition record.

Are you guys talking about the round shield with the letters "CS" on it? I don't really mind it. Just looks like the button on the sleeve of a sport-coat.

Canal St are no longer on my list, their springs and snap are far too sloppy for my taste. While we are on shields, all round shields are off putting in my view, Queen Cutlery's one is not much better and I suppose it is quite a recent introduction. Shields should be acorn, union, diamond etc and are better without any lettering mostly.

I'm brooding about a Queen Cutlery Barehead fixed blade in Amber bone, have been very pleased with a QC fixed I have in Green Maple (the blade etching is a bit tasteless though) The other knife I want doesn't exist, but, it's out there somewhere I JUST KNOW IT.....

I'm thinking that a Case Seahorse Whittler would be a valued addition to the collection, but I've never actually clapped eyes on one. The main attraction is the Wharnecliffe-type blade. Case is not as actively represented here in the UK in the way you might expect, but there is a new distributor setting up now and he knows what I'm after.

I have a couple of Rough Rider "Long Rifle" series slippies and just have to get all the other patterns. These compare to $200 custom jobs and only cost $15-$25.

At first glance, they are gorgeous. Shiny colorful brown bone handles with nice marbleing. Mirror polished blades. A good-sided silverish inset of a muzzle-loading rifle. The whole thing is smooth and even. No gaps, etc. Nice 'Long Rifle' wording etched perfectly into the blade.

The metal is incredibly sharp, right out of the box. And it's Hard. I tried to round off the top of one of the blades (Like I usually do with my slippies) and the blade gave my diamond files a real workout. It took me forever to reshape that blade.

Walk and talk like a good blade should. I don't sell these things, I just buy them. I'm getting mine now while the getting is good. There's no earthly reason for prices to be this low for quality sometimes even better than Case.

That's right, sometimes better than Case at 1/5 the price. You don't have to take my word for it, Rough Rider slippies speak for themselves.

When the price skyrockets and you've missed the boat, don't say nobody ever told you!

I think i am going to have to get a burnt stag handled GEC toothpick next. It looks just about the right size for my pocket.
Too bad all availible funds are going towards my 77 Z28 camaro right now:mad::D
Ah well, I know someday soon im going to break down and order one.

On a more mundane note, I just won an auction for a Buck 301 made in El Cajon with the traditional flat grind instead of the new super hollow grind that they use today.

So I guess that answers the question of what my next knife is going to be.

I'm broke these days, so I won't be buying any new ones for a while... I am, however, eagerly anticipating the arrival of our forum knives!!!

My favorite carrys are the Case seahorse whittler and the Canal Street canittler. What can I say, I like wharncliffes. I also got my name on the list for the forum knife, although I was late to the party. There has got to be a Case Magician's Cheetah floating around out there with my name on it, I just know it.

What am I brooding about? I have a Boker double tree copperliner sitting somewhere in Germany right now. It's a little tacky for my taste, but that isn't wht it was sent back. It was so polished, the blade slipped right past the backspring. QC fail.

Since it was discontinued, it had to go back to the motherland for repair. I'm wondering what they're going to do to it. Maybe custom fit a new backspring to it?

That's a MAJOR QC balls up! Blade looks like it can flip 360 degrees!

I'm waiting for a diamond Eze stone, not a knife clearly but every knife needs one....

D'oh! What the? I've never seen, or even heard of anything like that happening before. How is that even possible? Was the back of the tang rounded so much that the spring pushed up instead of stopping it? That's...... I don't even know what that is. Words fail me.

EDIT: Wait, that's a linerlock model- does it not have a backspring? Still- I can't get my head around that. You'd have to try pretty hard to get something that wrong.

I have 2 on the radar, and both are sure to be keepers.
My name has come up with the one and only Kerry "Knifehead" Hampton,
and the 2009 BladeForums Traditional Forum Knife is the other.

I'm not sure which one will be finished first, and if I can get just one by Christmas I will be a real happy camper:D

Oh yeah, I did handle a Case Sod Buster Jr. yesterday at the hardware store and it was pretty sweet, so I may have to go back and get it just to tide me over. I guess that makes 3.

For the first time in over a decade maybe two, I can say I have no idea. Like Rob I have hopes for that ebony Case/Bose.

I have a few orders out, but none have much of a "deadline".
It could be this years forum knife, the Case/Bose or one from several makers that I am in line with or something that I can not live without that might even pop up on BFC. :D.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of that CASE/Bose Ebony.

In 5 days 4 knives have arrived. This is getting out of hand-not to mention funds.....

Tease!!

What and which ones??
and tell your daughter to lend you your camera!!!

I'm after their Serpentine Jack in Amber but it seems tricky to locate.

My Queen serpentine jack in amber isn't tricky to locate....it is in my right front pocket. :D

I have a Ken Coats easy open coming. I also have orders with Mike Alsdorf and Bret Dowell and need to wrap up.

I'm always on the lookout for the Case chestnut bone sway backs and Queen cocobolo series knives.

Stepdaughter won't lend out the camera, teenie hissy-fit.....

OK An old pen-knife from Germany marked Hoffritz NY (the chain store??) nice snap on this oldie.
Steel Warrior Copperhead as a trial beater, not a bad small size either at 3.25"
Bark River Lil Canadian in some new supersteel people are raving about, seems right!
Queen Muskrat in Amber jigged, very nice finish here all round

Still after that Serp Jack though....

Then there's a GEC I'm brooding about, CASE/Bose Norfolk keeps disturbing my sleep THIS HAS TO STOP or there will be no holiday money........

Currently waiting on one of those Opinel Slim No.8's. After seeing Dagon's review on Opinels, I was finally able to see just how thin those slims really are, and I just had to get one.
