What's so great about a "Stryder"?

Is the name "Stryder" or "Strider", I see both.

I see lots of posts about it but don't know anything about it. Who makes it? What are its pluses and minuses? What size is it? Is it any good for EDC? Plain or serrated? Like I said I'm a big dummy.

It is actually "Strider". That is the brand man and one of the men that makes them. There are several models, folding and fixed. The popular models are the SMF, SNG, and AR.

Strider's knives are known for being very beefy and thick. Thick blades, tough materials, big stop pins etc...

They have a very military/tactical look to them.

Do a Google search for Strider Knives and find their official webpage (I don't know the exact URL offhand).

I like Strider knives a lot!! I have had several, and would like to have more at some point. Tough as heck knives!!

The Buck/Strider knives are a collaboration knife between the maker and a production company. (A very common occurance.)

You will also see Buck/Mayo knives.

Typically the knife is designed by the maker and produced (sometimes with a lot of input from the maker) by the knife company, but I am sure each agreement varies.

Busse uses INFI, which is proprietary, but Chris Reeve uses S30V, which Strider has also adopted.

You may also have seen the name Spyker, which is a collaboration between Spyderco and Kershaw. It looks like the Kershaw/Ken Onion Bump.

But doesn't Buck also make something called "Stryder"?

No, it is Strider, however a bunch of people have it spelled Stryder on commercial websites. A search of "stryder knife" turns up the pages readily.

IMHO Strider make a very strong heavy duty folder. My favorite is the SMF. Here are the specs from Striders website:

Overall Length: 9"
Ti Slab Thickness: .150"
Blade Thickness: .187"
Overall Thickness: .53"
Blade Length from Center Pivot: 4.4"
Cutting Surface: 3.75"
Weight: 6.0oz

It is a big folder but actually feels really nice in my hands. Titanium handle with framelock on one side, G10 handle on the other. If I was going to war and could only bring 1 folder. The SMF would be it.

agreed i got mine yesterday and I'm really impressed by it.... slots in perfectly bertween the sng and AR/GB....

DGG, I have a Strider AR and a Manix. Believe me they are quite differant. I carry the Manix when I want to carry something slim and light, like when in gym shorts.

I love the Manix, but its not the same as Strider. I have a buck Strider 889 and for the money I think I paid around 55-60 bucks its a strong knife for few dollars.

There's also the "Stryker", which is a tanto-bladed Allen Elishewitz-designed model manufactured by Benchmade, AKA the Benchmade 910.

Okay the plus, is that they're just BAD-ASS, and that's why should buy their knives, because you're a HARD CORE individual that must have a Strider. and Let's not forget the magical CORD WRAP!
