What's that you're eating?

Pork ribs. Mesquite smoke.

Other side dishes that'll probably involve can beans.

Tonight, I'll show you a cheat code on butter soft ribs. My food has a German Texan background. This cheat code is from North Carolina.

Getting steamed for an hour and a half in this,

After that, a 25 minute smoke on the grill. Using whatever sauce.

Thanks! That sounds perfect. The wife asked for fudge, and I bought a Carnation boxed kit, but I think I’ll try and do some pecans too. Candied pecans sound so good with coffee right now! Those ^ look just great.
Thanks! They turned out pretty good.

Made fudge and two batches of muddy buddies, too. Gotta get some chocolate peanut butter no bakes going and ginger snaps either later tonight or tomorrow.

White bean soup with mackerel bruschetta tonight.

Wanted to use-up the rest of the bacon and stale bread. Rendered a 1/4 pound bacon together with garlic cloves, removed from grease, then slow-cooked with 1 cup of white beans for about eight hours with bay leaves, salt & pepper.

Gingersnaps in the oven.
One of my top three for favorite cookies.
Molasses
Ginger snaps
And snickerdoodles.

If anyone is ever out and about around Woodstock, Vermont and you like molasses cookies and/or cool general stores, you should definitely check out Gillingham and Sons. Great store, great products in a great little town. Their “hermits” are so good I have to order them by mail if I haven’t made it out that way in a while.

I met my daughter for lunch at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant Blu Basil.
Kimchi fries with bulgogi beef and she had avocado topped pot stickers as apps and a hot bowl of Bun Bo Hue, spicy beef and noodle soup.

Good lord those colors!

Seriously! Some of ya’ll’s Asian food makes me feel like an uncultured swine, calling the sugary junk we eat Asian, or even Asian-inspired. 🤣

More of the same, but different? Pulled pork and that smoked coleslaw. Cornbread, this time.

I’ve gone back numerous times and just ogled over your side dish of cornbread, it looks so amazingly delicious. I’m adding that now as my own special treat to myself for this coming Christmas Dinner, super inspired by you, thanks.

You are so 100% correct.

There is absolutely no comparison at all to what is served here in the States vs authentic home cooking.

This is one of the most enjoyable threads here, talk about some eye candy 👍🍻

Also thanks to D darsk20

Used your recipe to get some candied pecans going. Decided to add some candied ginger that the wife bought for drinks and then forgot about. Also added some of those extra ingredients that the recipe called for, and others that we just had lying around: pecans, cashews, shaved almonds, crushed hazelnuts, sesame seeds, craisins, candied ginger, cinnamon, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, cayenne pepper, bourbon, vanilla, and egg white.

A lot of it really isn't difficult to make at home, and quickly. Look up a blog called "Woks of Life" for lots of great, simple recipes (at least for Chinese food).
Hey fun! Thanks! Some good-looking recipes there. The wife orders packs of tofu noodles on a regular basis. They arrive in packs of water. We flash-fry those with vegetables in sesame oil. Sometimes we add egg and/or grilled chicken or shrimp and then finish with store-bought sauces. That’s the full extent of what we do at home.

But there are so many Asian-fusion/pub-food joints around here, and that’s what we usually end up doing when we crave those flavors. Nothing as authentic as what most of ya’ll do.

Wanted to use-up the rest of those weird little mushrooms that I got the other day. Chicken from the freezer was thawed, rinsed, dried, salt & pepper. Pan-fried the veggies for a bit then crisped the chicken thighs, de-glazed with Marsala, then dumped them into the pot with a half-glass of old white wine. Covered in the oven for two hours.
