What's that you're eating?

A 10" all meat pizza and a DIPA for lunch on Sunday at one of my fave beer pubs. :)

Now that I'm a bachelor again, I had to eat the pizza all by myself (boo-hoo), which is why I ordered in in a take-out box. I actually could have eaten it all at the table but saved 2 slices to eat at home. Breaking up is going to make me gain weight. LOL! 🤣

Found this huge 1.75# (1.5" thick) bone in NY sirloin steak buried in my freezer and decided it was time to cook it. Date on it was 10/2021.

Thawed it, coated it w/olive oil and seasoned it w/salt & pepper and let it return to room temp before grilling it on the stove top in my cast iron grill pan. 2.5 mins per side angled right and 2.5 mins per side angled left to get the grill marks but steak was only at 105 degrees internal temp after doing this.

So, I put it in the oven to finish at 325 degrees for 5 mins to get it up to 120 degrees for a "perfect" rare steak. Steak was SO tender and juicy, there was no need for the "condiments" that I usually eat w/my steaks. ;)

Ate it standing up at the kitchen counter with a steamed artichoke (w/Hollandaise sauce that I used as a dip) and some califlower mash on the side. Also had a glass of pinot (out of the picture) w/the meal. Yum! :)

Only at 3/4# of the steak. 3/4# left over; the bones weighed 1/4#. Will eat the left over steak cold w/a chimchurri sauce on top of rice or ramen. Also have a 3# piece of chuck in the freezer that I've got to do something with. Will probably make a beef stew (rather than a pot roast) w/it.

Been a productive day hunting mushrooms, in particular black trumpets.

After a day in the woods, decided to use a few of the mushrooms from today's haul in some wagyu and mushroom burgers. The rest will go in the freeze dryer tomorrow for longer term storage and future use in other recipes.

Unfortunately, no pics of them finished. They disappeared quick. Cattle knife was along for the trio today too, seems fitting with the beef.

Went to the "California Garlic Festival" held in Stockton today and had me a smoked turkey leg, some garlic fries and a Lagunitas IPA for lunch.

Gilroy is all pissed off about Stockton calling it a "Garlic Festival" but there hasn't been a "garlic festival" in Gilroy since the shooting in 2019 and the most recent news is that Giloy's "garlic festival" has been cancelled "indefinitely." So, they really have nothing to complain about.

Just went because I was dying to go to a "fair" of some kind before the end of summer, having passed on the Alameda County Fair and the California State Fair this year because they charged to much for parking & entry and it wasn't worth the time/gas to get there.

The cool thing about this fair was that parking was "just" $10 and entry was FREE to seniors (65+) and it was only a short drive from my house. I was in & out in 90 minutes and back home in 4 hrs but it was still "fun" to get out for a change, despite the awful Sunday afternoon traffic. :)

do you feel ok?
Yeah man. I had my in laws over for my son’s birthday and was kinda just minimizing the talking I was able to do by stuffing my face. We had already celebrated earlier and had half of that cake left over too so I finished it after finishing the ice cream cake. It was totally fine though. I don’t think your body can absorb all the calories if you eat a whole birthday cake at once, a lot of it must pass through kinda undisturbed. Too much pizza can be a problem but I think beer helps cancel that out. Then I took my wife out for seafood, which doesn’t even really fill me up at all, especially oysters.

not wanting to speak with in laws is a fantastic reason to stuff ones face.
and yes seafood is free

Decided to have lunch at "The Grill" off of the 18th Hole at "The Course" at Wente Vineyards in Livermore,CA.

Ordered a steak sandwich w/fries and a glass of Maui Waui.

Haven't been here for awhile and it seemed like a good day for it. 85 degrees, sunny w/no wind.

Table is shaded by an umbrella overhead. Brought a book to read and my ear pods to listen to some music while eating lunch.

Just enjoying life. :)
