What's that you're eating?

Any chance your wife could share the recipe? Looks like a winner.
Lol. I asked her. She said I didn’t leave much out. Neither of us have the patience for recipes. Different each time. I saw her tip the chicken drippings in from last week, as well as buttermilk from the butter she makes. Weirdly, she cooks the quartered squash in a crockpot with just a splash of water in the bottom and it renders the skin soft and eatable.

NWFRS NWFRS thanks, I guess I'll give it a try sometime soon.
Do! I don’t think you can go wrong with puréed butternut squash, onion, heavy cream, curry, and salt. The rest is just details. Meat stock and random other vegetables and seasonings won’t go wrong. Cauliflower makes an equally nice soup, substituted for the butternut squash. She gave me a few sips after it was puréed and I told her “More curry! More cream!”. It can be whatever you like. 🙂

So, I set out to make dirty rice for supper tonight. Then I thought, why not try jambalaya with ground beef, so I added some tomatoes and creole spices. Then I thought to at least try adding something healthy so I tossed in some chopped greens. Then I figured it would be better to cook the rice separately. And after all that I ended up with some kind of beefy gravy - sort of like shit-on-a-shingle poured over rice instead of toast. Definitely satisfying buy not quite what I was going for. I'll try again someday.

those kinds of foods fill in the cracks nicely.

I remember growing up a staple in the household was mushroom soup with beef carrots and celery over rice.

add crunchy ''chow mein'' noodles.

You'll chow, mane! 🤗😎

🤔🤨😑

Same meal for me tonight, but with a can of store bought chili mixed in. I wasn't going to post, but thought this was too funny not to mention: I was about to fill the pan with soapy water to soak while eating dinner, so put the soap in and then caught a draft, remembering that I had left the window open for Smokey after he... cycled his digestive tract. So I went over and closed the window, but the brief distraction was enough to momentarily forget that I had just squirted a bit of soap in the pan. I noticed a bit of "sauce" left so I scooped it into the bowl, and down the hatch it all went in a few minutes. I load my food with cayenne pepper, and didn't notice anything amiss, but now that I am burping bubbles I have reconstructed events and realized that dinner tonight was chili with ground beef, rice, and soap.
