What's The Best All Around Becker? BK10 Bk9 Bk7 Bk5 Bk2 ?

My Skunk. Sure, the 10 has a similar blade length as the 2, but being 3/16" thick it is a bit lighter. Also, it has a clip point (which I prefer), thumb ramp, and a longer finger guard.

Couldn't be happier.

Between the 7 and the 5 for me. The 7 was my first Becker and will probably always be my sentimental favorite, I carry it often and use it a lot. I love my 5 though, it can do everything and feels like an extension of my arm. I've chopped, sliced, batonned, carved, and stabbed with it. It's not a pry bar and won't out chop or baton like the 7 or 9, but it does what I need it to and things I never expected it to do.

I'd also recommend you look into a 4, it's a chopping beast and is an excellent draw knive and you can still slice and do finer tasks with it.

If you want an all around do anything blade though, I'd go with a 5 for the sheer versatility of it.

Imma go out on a limb here and say: 12....I have all the rest except for the 10....love the 9, haven't used the 5 much, 7 will be undergoing some major cosmetic surgery soon and I have a 2 that I've used a lot. ...12 is just a really great profile and size for me, and I don't think that the higher cost is so much for such a great all rounder. So from the ones listed I'd say 9, but the 12 would most likely be my one knife solution. Luckily, I don't have to choose.

Thing is, while you can do MOST tasks with a mid-sized or small knife, if you really NEED a large knife, nothing else will do. And, you can do tasks meant for smaller knives with a big one. Perhaps not as well, but you can. If you really want an all-around awesome and useful Becker, however, I submit that there's really no substitute for Ethan.

Also, this thread makes me think that someone is trying to find an excuse not to buy another Becker. You know what? You're doing it wrong.

The only way to really compare that many different knives is to buy one of each, use'm all at the same time, pick the one you like and then sell the rest. If you can bring yourself to sell them after you've handled them. They may all grow on you. :D

I had to rethink this and I guess I carry my 10 the most after the 16.

I'd rank them in this order from most useful all around to least useful all around, 10, 7, 9 , 5 & 2.

10 - I like the overall length of the 10/2, but the 10 is a lot thinner and lighter. I love the 10 and I always have one close by.

7 - very fast in the hand and a very good overall utility knife, a bit long for most cutting and a bit short for really good chopping

9 - I have carved a fork with it but not my first choice unless chopping, great knife though

5 - don't like it, looks cool but other than for knifefighting (which I rarely do anymore) I think other blades are better, if it was a rope cutting competition I'd want the 5.

2 - heavy in the hand and on the belt, I have 2 of these and they are mostly for loaners to folks who might break one of my other blades. Otherwise not a big fan.

Not a knife expert, I have at least owned and used all of them and I think I just did give away my last 5 recently.

Hi all,

I new to the BECKER forums having recently acquired my first BECKER.....a BK-14. I must say, I pretty surprised that (the Sleeper) Becker #5 is so popular. As a matter of fact.....I didn't even know there was a BECKER 5. I clicked on this thread thinking the "run away" Becker (all around) favorite would of been the Becker BK16. If anybody has pixs of these two side by side.....I'd love to see em. Thanks.

Pics of the 14 and 16? I could go snap some if that's what you're wanting.

I've handled the 2,5,7,9,10,
Worked on the 7,
Own the 2,5,10

The 10 is my pick for sure. I don't need to chop with a knife, and the 10 is SUCH a handy size without being overly thick like the 2. The 5 is a wonderous knife, but swinging it scares me a bit because of the back-swept tip.

Hi Bigghoss,

I'm sorry if I was unclear in my post. I meant a "side by side" of the Becker 5 and the BK-16.

Regards,

Hey Hardball I can post a pic of the 5 and 16 side by side only issue is I am at work, due to get off tomorrow in the afternoon and should arrive home monday so I can't post if for you until then. If nothing is posted by the time I get home I'll stick up a pic for you. Anything else you want in the pic balde wise?

Hi all,

Man, what a bunch of REALLY nice guys here at the Becker page! Thanks Wildnewfie. However, please don't trouble yourself on my account. I was just curious how the BK16 looks compared side by side with the likes of the Becker #5. I'm still surprised that the #5 is so popular after hearing/reading about how popular the BK16 appears to be. Arrrrr.....I still have to find some Slabs/Handles for my BK14. I'd love to go "custom" but don't want to (at the time) spend the money. Looks like "plastic" is in my BK 14's future. Thanks all.

i like my bk10 its the right size and weieght for me and will do nearly anything i need too do, after that my bk2 is the end of the world knife built like a tank and tough as nails!!

Unfortunately individual needs or interests often sway our choices over cold hard practicality. I love the 5 because it is a damn big knife but also light weight. I have found it to be much more functional than many give it credit for. Sure you can rock it over camp onions till chef Ramsey sheds tears of joy. But it is also a good fish filleter, feather stick slicer, etc. It also makes me feel safer around the scratchy bitty things in isolated areas. And it weighs next to nothing ! The 2 however has a touch of boat anchor to it. But it's borderline for me in that regard. I will take the 2 anywhere also. Actually, if I had nothing but the 2, no axe etc., I would feel fine. It is a tank. Some love it, some hate it. I am attracted to its stubby business like look and feel. I do not pretend to be totally rational in this choice, but few would deny that this is one that you can baton with confidence. These are two Beckers that some have no use for, but I will keep forever.
