I am looking for an all around camping / outdoor blade. Of course I will still have small blades on my pack and pocket. What would you guys recomend as an outdoor Khukri type knife?
Thanks

I give my vote to the 16.5" WWII. Of all my kuks it is my jack of all trades, not extreme in any way. If you want one a little smaller or lighter, go for the BAS. 2 cents from one with no sense, stevo

If I had only one, would be my 12 or 15" AKs. Actually, that's all i have now, and am selling the two 15s, so I guess to be honest my answer would be a 12" AK.

I am also in the same position.

I want to own ONE Khukuri (for now)., and want it to be a great example of a user-kuk. Something good all-around (for what they were used for).

I want it to be tough and practical overall.

The best bang for your buck kinda deal.

So, if anyone has any second hand kuks that sound like this... email me plz. I'm in the market. I don't mind a little bit of a fixerupper either.

My vote is for the 18" WW2 or the 16.5" Chiruwa Ang Khola if you prefer a full tang. The WW2 is more comfortable for me, though.

Just one? Any of the AK's in the 15- to 18-inch range, BAS or WWII (either length) are excellent choices. My personal choice would be BAS for belt carry or 18" WWII for pack carry.

The best one - is none. The saying "you can't buy just one" is doubly true for HI, since in your first order you're almost guaranteed to get two knives and peanut butter spreader. ;) From there, they just keep appearing on your doorstep.

More seriously, it depends on what you want to do -

If chopping is on the agenda, 16.5 WWII, BAS, or Pen Knife.

If you primarily want a camp knife, little to no chopping (kindling up to an inch or two, no heavy seasoned logs) go for a 12" or maybe even a bilton

If you don't kare about chopping, get a JKM-1 or Kumar Karda.

(edit - kare should be care, but it seems appropriate that way)

There are tons of options!!!! Where is the best place to get one of these? Thanks everyone

Only one place, from Himalayan Imports

The owner, our good friend and moderator here Uncle Bill is having some health problems at the time(see other threads here), so delivery may be delayed somewhat. If you do make a decision though, and can't wait, post on here asking for it, and someone here will probably be able to help. We have a great group here, which I consider an extended family.

So browse through HI's site, decide what you want, and then sit back and realize you'll never be able to stick with just one.

For a camp knife, you might try either of the WWII models, depending on which you like better. I used to have an 18" WWII model and it was a mean chopper that didn't feel like a clunker in my hands.

I've got a 16.5 Chiruwa AK that always sees more action than the rest. That would be mine if I could only have one.

Although it isn't necessarily my favorite khuk on some days of the week, my 16.5" Chiruwa AK is probably the most useful. This is due to the 16.5" blade, which seems to address a wider range of tasks than the 15" without being as heavy on the belt as an 18". A 16.5" AK with a traditional handle would be super if you could find one. My favorite handle material is horn on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, wood on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the sequence alternating every other week.

I'd concur on that, if it's one of the thinner ones. A chunky 18" AK is a speciallized beast. :D

My 18" AK was made by Bura and is lighter than the others. 29ozs. I held 18"WWIIs that were heavier.

I checked out a BAS, 16.5" WWII, 18"WWII and a 20"AK all by Bura. None of them fit me as well as the 29oz 18"AK by BURA.

I think I would have to pick one of my 15-inch AK's. Anything longer
could be uncomfortable to lug around in the woods, and anything shorter might not make a very good chopper.

Blgoode?

See? Everyone agrees.:p

Me? If only one..er, uh, 15AK horn handle. But I use the 12in AK more--go figger. AK's are pre-disposed to chop well. If I were getting out of the house more camping..the 15AK would see the most service.

Truly...if you get an HI Khukuri...you have started on a path. Welcome to the throng.:)
