Shortly after I got into Bladeforums, I dropped all my knife mag subscriptions. :p

I would agree, this place has all kinds of info not found in magazines. Including pictures, tests, reviews, videos, and a place to buy and sell. What more could you possibly need? Paper?:p

The last knife mag I gave up was Blade. I really liked it, but I was getting way more knife ideas from BF so I finally stopped. I have no idea what the market is like now.

I still read blade from time to time but this iPhone I'm using right this second has allowed me to take blade forums with me everywhere.

I have the latest Blade sitting here, I barely flipped through it.

More info online.

I'd have to agree that BF provides more information than any of the magazines.

BUT, I'm still kind of old school and do like magazines (I even still subscibe to a paper copy of the newspaper!).
I'd rank them:
1) Knives Illustrated
2) Blade
3) Tactical Knives.

If I limited myself to just one, it would be a hard choice betweed KI and Blade, but I would probably pick KI. It seems to cover a slightly broader view of things knives and the writing is pretty good. However it's only bi-monthly.
Blade does an excellent job and tends slightly toward the customs, but offers pretty good general coverage of most things knife related. Its monthly and really is nicely done.
Tactical is decent, but seems (to me) to be a tad pompous and a bit macho heavy, but still generally a good read. I've noticed lately they seem to be covering more types of knives than those that would be considered purely "tactical" and gradually becoming less pompous, which is good.

then there are books...
which in time (given it's rarity or unique content) might even fetch a handsome resale.
"knifeworld" is a great source of published information with what's traditionally thought of as collectable.
what's even greater is "knifeworld" offers free trial issues of it's periodical!

I like Blade more than the others. It has a fair amount of folder content, but also has a lot of ABS-style (forgive me :)) bowie features and info. They recently concluded a long-running series investigating the history of Jim and Rezin Bowie's knives, routinely highlight makers of nice bowies, and have coverage of ABS events and info.

Tactical Knives can be testosterone-laden, but also has more info than I'd expect on small utility knives, machetes, and other functional, notblack, nondeanimatory knife stuff. There are also rare gems- I liked Stephen Dick's short article on Kiwi brand kitchen knives a while back.

Knives Illustrated has a good blend of content, but the magazine itself always seems too short, and it's poorly edited- I find the typos and bad grammar irritating.

Knife books are another subject entirely. I wish I had a spare coupla grand to spend building a knife library. :)

I subscribe to Blade Mag, and read Tactical Knives at the bookstore. While BF DOT COM has lots of info, I can't read it in the bathroom...;)

Yep, Tactical Knives for me too, just wish each issue was a bit thicker. I love the "It Happened To Me" section.
