What's the best line of extremely low budget knives in your opinion? .

Everything mentioned here are great knives. Ans of course I would choose a Spyderco or Cold Steel etc over a MTech. But when I asked about extremely low budget knives I was talking about cheap knives with surprising good quality. Stuff that is not a major brand. Something that pretty much the whole line is under $30. I know you guys have bound to come across some really cheap off brands over the years that surprise you as far as quality goes.

Condor Knives still has a very affordable entry level knife range with 1075 steel and walnut or redwood handles which are true work horses.

If we're honest there is no such thing. Budget people waste more money in the knife world in the end than knife people who just bite the bullet and buy a premium knife. I been a budget guy and finally decided to get a nice knife after adding up how much I spent trying to find a good budget folder that would Make me happy. Quality up front equals savings in the future! Skip eating out a few times and get yourself a nice knife. You will be happier in the end search the exchange there are some budget deals on high quality knives to be had for a fraction of the cost!

That's a good point. I do have lots of both. Most of my "budget " knives were gifts however occasionally I do run across a cheap knife that I think is just really neat and buy it just cause I like it.

I do however think there are a few exceptions to the rule

Very few exceptions to the rule......most of the cheaper stuff is just cheaper.

Rough Rider, Marbles, Colt, Buck (most of the Chinese and some Made in USA Buck's (including the venerable Buck 110) can be found in your price range) traditional knives. I don't know about the Rough Rider, Colt, and Marbles "modern" knives; not my cuppa tea.
Oh, there is a new Walmart special edition Made In USA Buck modern, for around $30,. You can find out more on it, over in the Buck sub forum. I don't recall the model number. Just looked. Model 715

It depends exactly on what you are actually researching : a dependable knife that may lack in finish and is built out of affordable materials (aka : a good tool).... or a less expensive version of a coveted higher end knife (aka : the bling without the bang) ? Just asking, because there have been so many sensible suggestions made above (Ontario, Buck, Mora, Kabar, etc.). Many well known and well reputed brands have a budget line which offers great value for the money. The choice is immense. I will add AG Russell... he takes the cake for nice, tough and affordable knives. And yes, also the Böker Plus range... Bottom line is : there are many, many, very nice (I mean : tough, dependable, reliable, durable) knives out there at less than 30 - 50 $.

Case Workman Sodbuster (another absolute favorite of mine)

There are several but I think Kershaw has a lot of pretty good knives at low prices. Kevin 😊

Alox Vic for me. I always have one with me no matter what other knife I carry including my CRK Insingo.

Sanrenmu is a good company for really budget knives and the Sanrenmu 7010 is a lot of knife for the money. They do have some "meh" stuff though as well as some good stuff. When going with Sanrenmu look at the size and find a utube video showing the knife in hand. Many are smaller than you first might think.

Here's a couple of budget knives I used for practice when I first got my 1x30. Pretty impressed with how they've held up and they do get used even though I have a lot of more expensive stuff. (They actually out-cut a lot of the more expensive stuff due to the regrinds.)

Master USA 1130, (under the Master Cutlery umbrella with MTech, Elk Ridge, etc..)

I think both of the above were purchased for under $25 total.

Also agree with others who mentioned stuff like SAK, Opinel, Svörd Peasant knives, Buck Vantage, Byrd...

The old vintage USA-made Camillus, Schrade, Ulster, Imperial etc. You can still buy excellent knives in excellent condition for just a few dollars. I mean, often less than even $20. Seriously. Certainly not difficult to find for less than $30.

Then there are new Mora for fixed blades and Victorinox for multifunction pocketknives. Also mostly less than $30.

It depends on your definition of "budget knife."

If you mean there are no good, cheap (using the OP's <$30 criterion) knives you are mistaken. The previously mentioned Victorinox (my personal choice) and Opinel are excellent examples of terrific, yet inexpensive knives.

I *think* you mean that if you go for a cheaper version of a knife you really want you'll almost certainly be disappointed. If that's indeed what you're saying, then I wholeheartedly agree. If you have an itch for a CRK, then a Sanrenmu isn't likely to scratch it.

I'm fortunate that modern folders--"high end" or otherwise--hold no particular appeal for me, so I get to navigate life quite happily with my SAKs.
