Yeah, I know... strange thread.

It's human nature, of course, to plug the items you own and use. They're the best because you have them, right? Happens on Bladeforums all the time; someone asks for a recommendation, and everybody responds with "My knife is a..."

So I thought I'd try a different route. What is the best general-use outdoor knife you don't own? Might be one you're thinking about getting, but not one you've already ordered...

For me? Busse Steel Heart. I think it would do just about anything you asked of it. Little big for dressing game, but it would do. And it would shine in terms of chopping chores. Built like a tank with good prying strength. This one is high on my list of "I want" knives.

I perfer a four inch fixed blade with a scandi grind and tampered tang, either carbon steel or S30V. The spine needs to have a nice sharp 90 degree angle's to spark a FireSteel. I love my larger knives, like my Busse Natural Outlaw, Swamp Rat Camp Trap, Linger WSK, Randall 18, but the smaller fixed blades for me perform better.

i have way more than i will use, but not enough to not want a knife. but if i had to order one right now, i dont know what i would order, there are so many good knife makers on this forum alone i would not know where to start. i have scandi girnd bushcraft knives, large choppers, large and small folders, large and small fixed blade knives, machetes, axes, woodsmans pal, what i woudl like to have is a month off per year to go out and spend time with them and some friends playing with them.

The best OutDoor Knife that I don't own is all the outdoor knives I don't own. One of those questions that answers itself.

I've been interested in the Cold Steel Outdoorsman for some time, but haven't had the bucks to spare.

For me too. Never handed it, rarely used 7" blades and when i did it was craps. By the specs, by the geometry, by all what i've read on this forum, yes it's a knife i have to buy. The day will come...

Is this like asking every doctor in town, who the second best doctor is, so you can choose a doctor.

I'd have to say that it would probably be either a Busse Battle Mistress or Steel Heart in any configuration.. :(

I have no idea what you just said, but I think you're right.

The Beck WSK was mine but I just bought one very similar from Red Scorpion Six new Predator WSK. Now the best outdoor knife I DON'T own would be this new RAZR. Looks like my TOPS SCREAMING EAGLE with modifications. But has some interesting features. I would like to see more on this if anyone here has purchased one. I am thinking of buying one just don't know if the features are worth the extra $$.

This is the one I'd pick, I tried one out on a passaround and fell in love with it, I really don't know why I haven't picked one up yet.

I don't own a lot of knives, (yet) so I would say something simple like a Kabar USMC combat knife. Carbon steel of course.

Grohmann & D.H. Russell Knives Model #1 click the link grohmann knives in my post it'll take you to their site.

For what its worth, Grohmann are the sexiest blades in the world as far as I am concerned. However they also have the worst steel I have ever worked with. They get razor sharp very fast and dull just as quick.

Sexy all the same even without real world edge holding. Mine is a loaner now.
