Hi guys, new to the forum, kinda, I had an account years ago but forgot the username etc so here I am again. I onyl had 20 posts or so back then.

Anyway, own a bunh of folders, mostly cheapies, ut dont own a single fixed blade.

Im looking for a nice blade 154cm or better steel for camping, hiking, backpacking, fishing etc. It's what we like to do on the weekends. I often use a blade to cut ropes, skin animals, kill child molesters etc..

Interested in any tips on what's hot in that sub $100 category for a sweet fixed blade that has good steel!

What i've been looking at: I dig simple and clean.

welcom back.
fixed blade with serrations is a little hard.

mora of sweden makes a model with full blade serrationfor like $16 and its a great beater blade. <Craftline TopQ Rope>

the highest value fixed blades are (in my opinion) the Becker BK11 ($30-$40)(steel is 1095 crovan) and the ESEE izula($40-$50)(steel is 1095). i prefer the BK11 because of its size and sheath. plus you can add scales and the kabar TDI clip. its what i use as my small camp knife.

if you want something a little bigger look at the becker BK2, or esee - 5

esee 4, I've seen used Scrap Yard S5's for $100...love their Weiner Dog too- great knife

ESEE RC-4, Fallkniven F1 would be my choices. Non-serrated of course. :)

I don't know I was thinking like cutting cope etc but I guess if I have a good enough blade I don't need that.

A ten dollar Mora is good enough. No doubt just about any knife is, including what you already own.

"Good enough" isn't your problem.

If you think you need a serrated knife to cut rope, your problem is that your knives aren't sharp enough.

Spend some of that money on a decent sharpening setup!

i know 2 deer hunters that use the gerber yari as their primary fixed blade...both field dress their game with it...i camp a lot in the summer; i'm getting one because i need a fixed with a combo edge AND it's s30v...

Thanks guys. I actually REALLY like the size of the Falkkniven F1 but the S1 I think is the bigger one and I like that even better as most of my blades now are around 3-4". I'd like to have something that holds an edge for a long time.

That is my main issue with the crap knives ive got now. I use them a bit and they need to be sharpened right away. Most are 440c which is why, the other knoives ive got are not practical for anything but self defense like my CRKT HIssatsu folder, which I love but don't plan to go on 4 days backbacking trips with it!

I'll check out those esee

Ok gang I decided on these 2 since they are both under $100

Becker Companion Bk2

Rat RC5

That RAT seems to be about $30 more but has a better handle. Most people seem to be going aftermarket on the handles for the BK2. I love the size of these knives, exactly what im looking for.

thoughts?
