What's the big deal about Para Military?

I like PM2. Easy to carry, lots of different colors and steels available, lock is fun to use. But a little small for me. I had mine for a very long time, and eventually got a Military. The Military is still here. The PM2 is not.

Interesting replies, thanks everyone for each. Might have to pick one up. So what's the difference between the Pm 2 and 1, If any? Would you all recommend a PM2 as a first spyderco, or something else? For EDC, I carry a benchmade Contego and 581... I prefer big blades. Recommendations?

If you like larger blades go with the Military. You can't go wrong with either the Miltary or PM2 but the Millie is a larger knife. Or you might just grab a PM2 now and wait for the Military 2 coming out sometime in 2015. Suppose to be some changes coming if my understanding is correct.

Pick up a pm2 or a millie and carry and use it for awhile. After you "get it", cumbersome designs and thumb studs will just start seeming silly. Spydercos are less about the "show" and all about the "go". Carry and use them for a little while and it's all over. They will ruin you.

The PM2 would be a great first Spyderco. I got mine in November after years of carrying ZTs. It was my first, but I do carry the Military a lot more. I like larger knives too.

Only have four now with one one the way..

Five in two months doesn't make you an addict...right?

That's what I like about Spyderco, you get a solid working knife that is also aesthetically pleasing without all of the frills. I agree on the thumbs studs lol. Now they just seem like a nuisance.

Noticed one thing already I'm not a fan of... Pocket clip is on the blade end?

Most Spyderco knives are drilled for several carry options. The Military is not one of those. I have the lefty version and I really like it but I find it too big for EDC for my taste. I prefer the Domino, Gayle Bradley, and Sage 2. I think if you get one and use it you'll enjoy the knife. If not you can sell it. There are lots of cool knives out there.

I still don't own a PM2. Almost bought one a few years back for cheap, but not yet. It's on my list. Lots of good features, US made, right around $100. Definitely a fine choice.

I have a few knives, some much more expensive than the Para 2, but it's the Para 2 that is in my pocket most of the time. Aside from the near perfect fit in my hand, and the useful full flat ground blade, there's something about the design of the lock that makes it just delightful to open and close. Hard to describe, other than Spyderco really got it right with this design.

Hey guys, I haven't handled let alone own a Spyderco as I'm more of a Benchmade guy, but I hear so many good things about the Para Military 2. Don't see what the fuss is about, it's good steel, looks simply made... What's the deal? Can anyone fill me in?

The deal is....it's a great knife. And I would never call it simply made. It uses a compression lock which is quite a bit more complex than most locks, including the Axis lock IMO. Milled out liners. Angled jimping. Larger than normal lanyard hole. Great ergos on the handle. How is all this simple?

you can get the 581 for $140..i know because i lost one at a water park and replaced it, and my friend left his downrange stuck in a log right next to a few pounds of tannerite at my range.........never did see if they would warranty it lol oops

That would have been an epic CS phone call........

And now with MAP they are $195, I have been looking :(

PM2 is $106 at National.

For anyone on the fence about weather or not to get a pm2. Get one. Chances are you will love it and the odd chance you don't you will get your money back. I have 4 ( cts-204p ,Elmax, s35vn and s30v) and I love them all. Spyderco nailed it with the pm2

i will take my benchmade 581 over the para military..

Well I wouldn't, so there :p

Not from a legit authorized Benchmade Dealer you can't.

I owned about a dozen Benchmades also...then I got a PM2, don't have any benchmades anymore! So much more for your money and a great company to promote!

My story as well. I'm in the process of selling off my BM knives. Spyderco gives you better value, materials, and performance. The branding and image of BM has surpassed the quality of their products IMO.

The PM2 is an awesome knife. When you pick one up - you know you are holding something of quality.
