No not the 3' Machete you have in the closet.
I mean a Bowie-Fighter-Camp knife whatever.
Mine is a 11" blade Bowie edge quenched 5160 with a solid G10 handle and guard.

WHY:confused: because it fits right on the back of passenger seat and I can grab it faster than you can blink!!!
Thats why.

Pics Show em if ya got em!

Robert, My biggest is a Becker Brute I got for Christmas one before last. It is about as big a knife as I ever need. If I need to do chopping I use a hatchet and if something bigger needs cut, I use a folding Fiskars saw. The Brute chops nicely and has just enough heft to bite without to much weight to wear me out quickly. I am not a big recurve fan, but on a larger knife it does give a good forward spot on the blade to use for chopping. The Brute replaced an old Ontario 10" flat tipped bladed knife I carried for years. It came in especially handy for chipping away ice when out in the field during the winter months.

I just picked up a Cold Steel Gurkha Khukri, full size, and it's the biggest, thickest blade I own. I carry a Gerber coffin handle bowie in the truck and I take my Cold Steel Trail Master when I plan to stay outside overnight. I've probably cut more tent pegs and walking sticks with a Swiss Army knife saw blade than anything else.

Ontario Spec Plus-5. I got this knife to strap on for solo camping trips. It's a nice big, low cost, bowie that has held up nicely so far. I got interested in this knife once I saw this websight. http://www.us-rsog.org/Research-Enter.htm I figure if these guys can rely on the SP-5, than it's good enough for me.

Swamp Rat Camp Tramp, among other tasks it does my chopping chores.

But I intend on buying a large Muela bowie this year just for the hell of it.

The largest I own is a Blackjack "Shining Mountains" bowie, which edges out my DeLeon custom bowie by about 1/2".

It was a gift from a freind of mine.

I don't think that I have a single blade over 4" long. I just don't find larger knives to be all that handy. I use a hatchet or axe for chopping.

7" of beautiful D2 and black linen Micarta. The blade cut's like a lightsaber and seems to be balanced even better.

If I need more knife than this, I've probably got in over my head and a better knife wouldn't help me anyway.

My Biggest is a Cold Steel Oyabun... a tanto style with 9" of blade... And I wanted it because I wanted a big tanto. I've only used it for slicing Limes for Margheritas and cutting brush/branches away from a cabin.

But at only slightly smaller is a significanly better favorite- My Timberline Zambezi... True hard core combat quality at a price I could afford.

Here's a pix of my largest: 15" Bowie - Why? Because the idea was 'floating' around in my head & Bruce Evans could bring it to reality!
Also, my smallest: 3 3/4" ATS34 w/stag handle from Ken Davis - Why? Because I just became interested in miniature knives & their detail!

Mine is a 9" bladed Grandmaster Darn Dao by Bob Lum, of L6 tool steel. I originally ordered it for use with my Kung Fu forms, but the L6 tool steel made this a serious user. It's the one on top. The bottom one ain't no slouch either.

Mine is a Rodgers and Sons hunter with a 9.5 in blade, about 16 in overall. Why? Because it has been in my family for generations and still looks great.

The largest I own is Randall #1 with a seven inch blade and stag handle. Why? It feels good. Garland

Kabar USMC fighting knife 7" not too shabby but I can stab it through 400+ pages in my economics textbook reallly good :)

Stabbing an Economics Textbook...thats a good one.
I will send you a Statistics book you can stab for me:D

After messing with knives for quite a while now I want a little distance and heft between me and the recipient(sp) of my rath.
Balance is really key to how well a knife moves for sure. Needs to feel like an extension of your hand.

11" blade is about as far out as can go and still feel in control of the blade at all angle's of thrusts and slashes.

Mine is a Randall Model 14 my Dad gave me when I got out of jump school 15 years ago.
