Whats the bigest knife you own and WHY?

Right now, my biggest blade is still this Bowie:Bowie pics It's the 3rd post in this thread; 3 pictures. It was 21" long, and I use it all the time for hunting. It's also great at both chopping and brush clearing. It does everything (and I mean everything) between a pocketknife and chainsaw. Now, though, it is only 18" long and shaped like a Rio Grande Camp knife. (I broke it during some heavy use :( )

I just ordered the steel to make a much improved version that will be 24" long, also for hunting. It's the absolute best I've found for the purpose so far.

When I finally get the money saved up, this will be my biggest blade: Seneshal Now THAT'S tactical! :D -Also to be used for hunting.

If you don't count the HI khukris, it would be my Marbles Northwoods Big Game Skinner and a big Ruana skinner with a gorgeous elk stag hidden tang handle.

I really don't use large blades very much. An axe chops a lot better for me, but I like these two blades anyway, and there are some other big knives I want also, mainly Bowies.

A next generation Ka-Bar fighting/utility - one of the new ones with epoxy coated 440A steel.

Why? For the price it's about the best all-round utility-camp-survival knife I have. The blade is thin enough to slice well, tough enough for light chopping (despite what some might say) Anything bigger would be a pain to carry. I also have a Fallkniven A1 (don't like the grip very well) and a Buck Nighthawk (great knife, REALLY bad sheath :( ).

Just out of curiosity how well does the coating on the Reeves blade hold up???

Robert,

The coating holds up pretty well actually. When it does start to wear it wears evenly and doesn't flake.

Figured I would chime in on this one. Currently, the biggest one is an Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry 10" Smatchete. Last time I used it was to hammer some nails back into the front steps. (couldnt find the hammer, but knew exactly where the knife was;)

The biggest KNIFE I own is my Ontario/Bagwell Hell's Belle "fighter". When I hold it, I'm sort of "taken back" to the alleys and streets of New Orleans in the mid 1800's.

My biggest "sharp steel" is my Cold Steel Gurkha Khukri...That one is a monster, and I'm pretty sure that I could chop-down enough trees with it to build a log cabin out of!

My biggest folder is my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande. With it's 6 inch blade, and 13 inches opened length, it makes most fixed-blades look small.

You guys have some heavy hardware. Whats sad is I like everyone of the blades mentioned and only own a few production blades.
poque,
Hey thanks for answering I am planning on using the same coating (As Mr Reeves) in a different color shade on a new line of blades. I believe he uses a Satin black, mine will be a modified version of that color.

Robert, could you post a pic of your 11" bowie with G10 handle that you mentioned? Curious to see how that G10 looks!! My largest knife is an 18" fighting bolo from the Philippines with a "Sato" insignia... guess it's a Japanese maker...

I guess it would be my old Explorer wilderness II, its about 10.5" OAL
My biggest folder are my 94x Benchmades...I wouldnt want to lug much more than that around.

Actually the handle and guard on that particuler Bowie I just took back off (Read destroyed to get it off) and will be replacing it with some Stabilized Maple or Redwood Burl and Damascus guard and pommel. Just turned out too nice to leave sitting in the truck.
Will post a pic when it's complete.

My cuda mad maxx Stiletto would be the biggest knife i own. I have a Busse NO on order and that'll soon replace it with a 6 inch blade.
