Always wanted to have a BIG knife - so when this Teton Bowie went on sale from the Cutlery Shoppe some years back I bought one -
AUS-8A steel - full convex grind zero bevel edge - frighteningly sharp for a big knife - comfortable Kryton handle - to me it looked "better" than the very popular trend-setter at the time - the Cold Steel TrailMaster bowie.
Hey, it was something like $69.95 on sale - what can I say? The weight alone was worth that
Ontario RTAK (for cutting through the jungles of Eastern Washington state)
Swamp Rat BattleRat (for defending myself against concrete block armed bad guys)
Biggest is a Guinguard 10" forged Bowie with stag grips. Baddest is either a Busse Straight handled Battle Mistress or Straight handled Steel Heart II both 5/16". Why? Just cause they are so cool. What I actually carry is either a Busse Badger Attack or Swamp Rat Howling Rat with ~5" blades. Gotta get me a Hankins Night Fighter one of these days. Fell in lust with that the first pic I saw.
My biggest is an 80's Explorer Wilderness II from Wally world. We all know why we bought these knives! (I still wannabe Rambo ya know)
Its just under 10" overall length and is actually a pretty decent knife & gets pretty dam sharp! Im not into real big knives though really.
All my folders except my BM940 are 3" or less, thats the perfect edc folder size for me anyways.
I like my Hankin's "Whisper in the Dark". Not too heavy, and not too small, and not too big to carry on my web belt. Great for small chopping around camp. Great all around blade, and handle design. 15" OAL 9 3/4" tip to handle.
I've tried others, and keep coming back to the Whisper.
A 21" Bowie style made from a truck spring by Charlie Davis at Anza Knives. It weighs about 3 1/2 pounds.
Why, you ask? Because I won it in a raffle for the fire victims in last summer's wildfires in the San Diego area.
I have it in the entryway of my home and am very proud to own it. I currently can't post a picture here, but if you ever visit knifeforums, it is my avatar.
I am not really into large knives so I try to keep them in the 4" range. The largest one that I own is a Benchmade 140HS Nimravus with a blade length of 4.5". This was a knife that I had been wanting for a long time and once I got it I instantly fell in love with it.
Living in a big city NYC increases chance encounters with the authorities responsible for policing knife size. For that reason nothing I own is of illegal size. Bigger is not better, it can land in you in jail and give you a criminal record even if you are law abiding and have no ill intentions.
My best knife is modified CRKT Ryan Plan B and a Small Strikar (5.25 inch total length), great personal weapons and as far a fixed blades go not so scary that they cant be pulled out for everyday tasks.
I own a m-9 bayonet just because I thought they look cool. Nothing really over 7''. Of course the Ka-Bar, and CS recon tanto. Have an Ontario beaver tail machete for clearing brush and crap like that.
