Whats the bigest knife you own and WHY?

My biggest: CRK Green Beret
Why: Was such a beautiful knife I had to check it out. Once it was in my hands I couldn't let it go. Not my most used, but it's the biggest.

I think my biggest knife is my Kevin Cashen Scagel style camp bowie with 12" blade of O1/L6 ladder pattern damascus. Nickel silver guard with crown stag handle and ironwood spacer. Why, because I thought it was a cool idea at the time! :)

My largest blades are:
11" blade 16" overall Randall Sasquatch
10.5" blade 16" overall Cold Steel Laredo Bowie
11" blade 17" overall damascus Bowie by Craig Steketee
12" blade 18" overall HI Uncle Bill Especial
12" blade 17" overall Camillus OVB Fisk Bowie
9" blade 15" overall Busse Battle Mistress

Why? I like big blades. They balance better, they can chop, pointy ones can do almost everything a small blade can do. I have a few 11.5" Bowies on order from Matt Lamey, Terry Primos, Bill Bagwell, and Kevin Cashen to continue the obsession. They feel better to carry, and I don't underestimate them and do something stupid like use them for a backscratcher.

edit
If we're counting khukuris, I have a 25" HI Sirupati for major chopping.

My big boy is a Becker Machax from Ethan Becker not blackjack or camillus. I can't imagine needing any more meat to a knife for any purpose. If I need more I'll use an axe.

not counting my axes, for the moment, it's a Mad Dog Panther with 10" blade...and if you have to ask...

Shown with my other Mad Dogs...a customized Operator and a Street Razor for size comparo

RL, that Mad Dog Panther is baaaad!!! That's the one you wear on a rig on your back, right? So cool.

My biggest is a Ganga Ram Kukri from Himalayan Imports, about 18 inches in blade and about 3.5 pounds in weight.

Mostly to look at.

Recent photo from the NJ Knife Collectors Association --

On the far right, a WW I bolo, on the far left, a 4" CRK Sable III, sheathed, and next to it, a CRK 12" Sable. Just for fun. I haven't cut up any watermelons with it ... yet.

The blade is actually 12.5", overall length 18", the knife itself is about 24 oz. and the sheath is 11 oz. more.

"Gadi", my Cold Steel Trailmaster. I bought it from the late Gadi Blilious in my first ever deal.

Why? Because I can.

Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. Haven't used it yet (just got it) but I plan on using it on camping trips for light chopping and clearing. If your looking for a good big knife check out swamprats!

The Brown Bowie I had made 12 years ago with my design and specs made by Joe Malloy also of Pa.
It measures 12 1/2" blade of custom rolled d-2 from Jessup, Pa. It is 3/8" thick, flat ground to a convex edge, black micarta handle with nickel silver spacers and 316 stainless guards. Overall length is 18 inches. Weight, about 2 1/2 pounds. Lucky enough to have it photographed at the NY custom knife show the year it was made and the picture ended up in a knife rag six months later in an article about oversized bowies.

Then the Bagwell Custom Belle at 11 1/8" blade of 5160.

The the Cold steel Light Kukri.

Why?
Brown Bowie:I wanted my own designed Bowie [ not a fighting bowie ].
Belle: Best fighter to be had anywhere in my opinion
Kukri: Needed something inexpensive to cut brush back in the yard.

Brownie

Thanks for the confirmation. I think you have great humour putting that "censored" stamp on it. :D

/Colinz, a fan of both makers :)
