whats the deal

I used my bk2 in 1095cv to clean animals from my farm, camp in the mountains of north carolina and countless other things. It took me hours of work with sand paper to fix edges back to perfection and INFI performs all the same tasks but with much less edge damage saving me time because i dont have to repair as much. But keep in mind my 1095 never failed me and i will stilll use it but I keep in mind ill be repairing edge damage more often. Just wana say thanks for hearing me out I like all that has to do with knives so conversing about them is a pastime to me.
:D The key is having a good discussion. A level headed comparison is good, and quite often good enough is indeed good enough. :) Most cannot afford a Busse knife. Most of them are half of a persons rent or house payment and to those scraping by its not a good idea to go buy a 200 to 300 dollar knife for use occasionally. To others to spend anything less than 400 is a silly investment. Performance is secondary to the average Joe. Heck, most of my friends and family spend less on a knife than I do on a good chunk of leather. :p

Its all good though, just remember where you are when commenting on a brand. Busse's creed is we dont disparage any other knife maker here, its just not acceptable. While he respects other makers, so should we. The same goes with a lot of other makers here its better to keep the peace. :) Guyon has wise words.

Again is there a rule against speaking about the different breaking points between steels?
What exactly did i say that should have been thought out? That a busse ash-1 would have not snapped in half? I wont censor the truth to make any one feel better..on an internet forum about knives. Thin skin on the internet over knives isnt something id expect from adults especially when its truth being told. Should the proof of busse thread sticky be deleted so theres don't see what a busse can handle without breaking?
The point is making a point without mentioning other makers and hurting others choices. Anyone can break any knife if so disposed, its not that hard.

You keep mentioning thin skin, but I do see a lot of level headed commentary, very neutral. We as a community try not to make another feel put upon for their choices. We know we have some of the best knives on the market, no need to rub it in the noses of those who make different choices.

Leatherman I appreciate your patience, when i say thin skin i speak of the closed thread. I Believe the miscommunication is my own fault. Im not bashing or saying anything against any maker, just saying 1095 REGARDLESS of maker will not hold up like INFI. When i stated that i was called a troll.. by a person in the becker forum even though i never bashed becker for the 10th time I BUY beckers but come on people getting angry because they dont want to hear that INFI is stronger than 1095. Has nothing to do with Mr.beckers great knives just the people who like his knives never want to hear a busse will be tougher than a becker.

My person position is that I really don't care what others think. I make my decisions for me, certainly I take a great deal into account before I make a decision, that includes my own personal experiences, research and the experiences of others I know. I never really feel the need to justify why I own what I do or choose what I do, I just do.... :D When asked why I spend $X to buy a "knife" I generally answer because I wanted it and I can. Trying to rationalise a very personal decision to another with different taste and experience never really works. Same as when I get asked "why" do I have so many Busses or widgets or pairs of socks...simply because I can and I choose to. Some people like Busses, some people love them, some people don't understand them some hate them, all those positions are just fine with me.

Personally, I have "several" Puma knives, some ZT/Kersaw,, a few odds and sods and the balance of my small collection are Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard and ESEE, Oakleaf knives are starting to blow wind up my skirt as well ;). I give ESEE and Busse/Kin as gifts, I don't make a gift of something (to a friend or Godchild who are most often the recipients ;) ) that I would not trust myself.

One of my two closest friends does not like my big blades (he has some himself for when heads need to be removed from necks ;) ) but does get excited by all my smaller/medium blades, my other closest friend has bought a TGLB, ASH1 and NMFBM in the past year ;)

Don't get wound up in other peoples likes dislikes my friend.

I gotchya andy, and honestly less mouths at the trough has never had more meaning to me. lol

INFI is just a great steel, so is SR101 and SR77. Busse and busse kin blades are just great, they make a fine product.

So do a lot of other manufacturers.

Truth be told 99.999% of users will never functionally need to push these knives to the limit. Whether they do or not is often more a situation of "hey let's see if the knife can do *this*..."

How many people actually need to break apart a car or pry up manhole covers with a knife? lol.

No one needs to do these thing but it sure is fun:D

:D If you look back at some of my older posts and see what I tried with my SHe on an old car hood and the hardened nuts that were in it, well, the SHe is still kicking. That says a lot for the product. But honestly how many people need to clean and dress a Buick? :p

If one can afford them, Busse is great! Down a little I really like Swamp Rat. But those even are not affordable by everyone. I have family and friends that are perfectly happy with their under 30.00 knives. :) oh, and they think I am simply insane using my expensive stuff.

I bet theres an old man somewhere with a slip joint shaking his head at all the young folks and our car destroying knives lol

Wait........there are other knife companies?

Seriously though, everyone of them brings something to the table and fill a perceived void in the knife wielding community. I love my Busses, Fehrmans, Swamps and Scraps, Wesners, Ranger (original pre Ontario) and while I've picked up most models of Esee and Becker and I've enjoyed them, I no longer have any ESEE and only a test BK9 that I bought from Ethan for a penny. They were great, performed admirably and I will not say a bad word about them. But I don't see myself buying any more in the future. So many great makers out there, i like to give them a try, but at the end of the day, I go home to my Busses.

I personally buy so called "Hard Use" blades simply for the "What if it happens when I least expect it to" factor. What if I actually need THIS knife to cut my way out of something, dig my way out, or pry open a car door to free myself or someone else in an emergency? Maybe it is a 1:1,000,000 chance. I still want to be prepared for that risk. I carry an entire survival kit in my car. Drinking water, bleach, fire starting tools, guns and ammo, fuel, wool clothing, powerbars, bandages, and knives. I've had guys at work look in my trunk and actually laugh like I'm waiting for some zombie apocalypse. Not so.. just very adamant about being prepared. Between my Gerber 06 (most people have no idea just how good of a knife this is with a little tweaking), my Ultratech, and my Boss Jack, I should be able to survive most situations. Including the one that nobody wants to have happen. Messy damn way to end a confrontation......

Infi

You sound like a prepared individual, nothing wrong with that. Old saying goes better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I was being inconsiderate but im over it. I like knives

Its when you start eyeballing knives like this, I have a few others by this maker and am so amazed at his skills. Look up tamahagane for what I have in three little kiridashi that I will treasure as long as I live then my daughter will treasure them as well. This knife in particular is so sharp it will push cut toilet paper free hung.

and this at knife shows that you might as well write off any thoughts of a retirement fund, its a long and narrow path to true knife knuttyness. Honestly we need a knife addicted anonymous before our wives and children off us for the life insurance.... :p

Push cut free hanging toilet paper? That's a level of sharpness I hadn't imagined being able to achieve yet. I can sharpen my knives to shave and push cut phone book paper but I never thought of push cutting free hanging toilet paper now I gotta try this out. I always liked the damascus steel look but haven't had a chance to really use one, I don't think all damascus is created equal though and the ones I've seen were on the low end of the price scale. Hmm ill be paying attention if my wife suddenly says "honey you need more life insurance" lol

I wanted to know why stating a fact that infi would have survived where 1095 failed.. So stating a fact in "their" house got me called a troll

Probably because it seemed like you were trolling. No one said 1095 was better than INFI......... Your quote above isnt a fact, its your opinion hitting hardened steel with hardened steel is a bad idea I dont care who makes it. Noss broke Busses with a hammer. I have plenty of Infi and SR101 blades but I dont beat on them with a hammer. If I made a statement like "My scrapyard holds an edge longer than my BK9" I wouldnt get called a troll. For you to say that its a fact an Ash 1 wouldnt have broke from being beaten hard many times with a hammer that isnt quite as much a fact and it wasnt relevant to the discussion.

Dwayne, I love that Bowie!!!:eek:............:D:thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you! :) I worked my butt off for that one. One of the best shoulder rigs I have ever done plus a few other things got that beauty in my hands. Its been years and I still haven't dreamed up the sheath I want to make for it. Every sheath should live up to the quality, blood, sweat and tears put into the knife. This knife is not going to be easy.

Journeyman Smith Craig Camerer is the maker.
