whats the deal

I couldnt find a single noss test where batoning a busse through a wood log with the poll of an axe caused a blade to snap in 2 pieces.. please provide some links to the more than one busse's noss broke putting INFI through wood logs with a hammer thanks.
There are many pictures of INFI not only contacting steel but barely taking any damage much less splitting in half.
Probably because it seemed like you were trolling. No one said 1095 was better than INFI......... Your quote above isnt a fact, its your opinion hitting hardened steel with hardened steel is a bad idea I dont care who makes it. Noss broke Busses with a hammer. I have plenty of Infi and SR101 blades but I dont beat on them with a hammer. If I made a statement like "My scrapyard holds an edge longer than my BK9" I wouldnt get called a troll. For you to say that its a fact an Ash 1 wouldnt have broke from being beaten hard many times with a hammer that isnt quite as much a fact and it wasnt relevant to the discussion.

Wow you really are a troll.

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Where did I say that he broke one on wood with an axe. How about you dont put words in my mouth. Noss has broken all kinds of knives with hammers. Hardened steel on hardened steel is bad.

The Noss tests are good proof that steel on steel is a bad idea, the FFBM test proves this. Yes, the knife took a lot of abuse before breaking, but it looked awful way before the failure.

Steel on steel impacts, even when the edge is on wood, still causes all kinds of stress fractures in the steel. The hammer always wins because it is a blunt instrument meant for impact.

ah, boy.

so the interesting thing about coming into someone's house, and slinging dirt in a thread that's already biased and suspicious... tricky.

one of the things that bothered me about that post was not quite having substantial evidence beyond a new guy SAYING what he did, in a way designed to start trouble.

as well, Noss tests. laugh. just goes to prove you can break anything with enough effort. at least he doesn't try to get a factory warranty after.

we're pretty biased against destructive tests "over there". now, testing to the limits? we like those tests. esp in real world types of scenario. heck, sometimes those are sponsored events.

"I try to always EDC a large hammer so I can deliberately deestroy my tools in a survival situation. I only carry brand X and everything else is such inferior garbage that I would rather chip flint than carry it."

Whats the deal?? i just sharpened my pocket knife, i should grab some toilet tissue and test my skills lol also i am eagerly waiting for a kydex sheath from azwelke his work looks top notch.

good point, if only there was a steel that could show those mean hammers whats up lol

i spent 5 weeks 2-3 hours a day last Summer hammering decades old cement with various chisels...

the cement lost. the chisels show a little wear, and the hammer has no damage

some of those chisels are thinner than some knives i have; damn tough steel there

i got some nicely carved cement too

MMM

Your arms got strong didnt they? not much can destroy a solid lump of hardened steel. A friend of mine gave me an old axe head that i polished up and made a handle from elm and put to use and ill tell you what for almost 100 years old it still works like the day it was forged. I bet these lumps of steel out last all of us.

sometimes the old stuff is the best

I've found that most often times vintage tools are heads above in quality to those mass made today. Waiting in anticipation for a 100 and some odd year old butcher knife right now and more excited about it that than I've been about any modern knife in a very long time.

Super steels are cool and all, but I do so enjoy simple carbon steel.

The sharpest knife I've ever owned was over 100 years old. Anything other than simple cutting probably would have damaged the edge, but that old steel would make you bleed just looking at it wrong! ;)
